Gday Guys
just want to know who has ice ignition 2 step system on their 351 clevo im having a few issues in trying to run engine in. its definitely the way ive set the dizzy up...... sent the carby away and thats fine. the guy who built engine swears the cam is set correctly and isnt a tooth out......... just need someone to tell me if im doing this right.... i have got motor to tdc on compression set harmonic balancer to 20° btdc gapped spark plugs at 40 thou set rockers on cylinder 1 as guided set dizzy so number 1 is at 11 o'clock settings on control box are correct too.. the trigger on dizzy is starting just before leading edge on number 1 ie the disc with the slots on it inside dizzy is starting just before the black sensor part inside dizzy...... is that correct or should i be setting the trigger ( slotted disc part) in the middle of the black sensor inside dizzy... im taking it in to engine builder on tues but i thought i would give it one more try...... i did have this on another post previously and had heaps of great feedback. thanks guys i know its something silly like not having it firing spot on the 1st cylinder. just need someone to tell me if the trigger part is right.....

Because the energy suppied by these ignition systems is so great it's actually better to time it by having the ignition on and actually make it spark by turning the dizzy housing, to find that initial point of firing. Doing it by visually lining up the vane with the pickup is often wrong because the spark will jump a large distance before the pin which means you'll actually have a retarded ignition point.
Does ICE have info regarding the phasing of the vane to the pickup? ARe you saying you have 20 deg initial timing? seems like a lot. |

we set number 1 cyl at compression stroke then turned harmonic balance to 20° btdc .
then dizzy was fitted so number number 1 was at 11 o'clock. this is what performance shop told me to do ice ignition also said to set dizzy at 11 o'clock too so the leads fit better

set the advance curve dials on the box to 0 0
set the rpm limit and stage limit to 6000 start the engine and set the timing by timing light to your initial value (ie approx 16 degrees) then setup your advance curve and rpm limits and double check with timing light. keep in mind the dizzy turns counterclockwise so ensure you have the leads in the correct order |
