Does anyone here know how to read engine numbers from the back of the block??
( what they mean ie: year of engine ). I have and engine from a EB 5.0 (?? I thought ) but noticed the sump is stamped 27 10 97. It does not have any EL 2 parts that i can see like gt40p or explorer, it has stock heads with 22 on one corner and HO manifold. Unless it was only the XR8 that had the goodies?? any info appreciated.

Year (single digit), Month (single letter, I is excluded), Day (one or two digits). So 3B27 is 27th Feb 1993, 7A2 is 2nd Jan 1997 etc.

Could have had the sump replaced after a dumb a*** at a ford dealer lowered the car down on it whilst on a hoist.

Would be a 1 for 2001 etc. 2000 is a Y 1999 is a X 1998 is a W 1997 is a V 1996 is a T 1995 is a S 1994 is a R This goes on back to 1981 I think it was but not all manufacturers used it the entire time. Honda Motorcycles did I know that. From memory it became compulsory at some point mid nineties but my memory is a bit hazy on it. Also just because a vehicle was made in one year, doesn't mean it was that years model. This is especially with Japanese vehicles as they realise the following year models around August. So say in August 2007, you can get a 2008 model vehicle. It will say on the compliance plate that it was manufactured 8/07 but have an 8 stamped in the VIN. Thats why a lot use MY08 as the model identifier. The RTA is terrible at recognising this but the insurance company's are strict by it. 9 times outta 10 the first 8 (??) is the matching engine number.

Im talking about the number on the actual block near the firewall. The one ive got here starts with K F 1 5 # # # # . If you can find what car a block came from in XY XW well I want to do the same with this one. In here I still cant work it out if some one else can http://www.fomoco.com.au/ID.html
