Whats peoples thoughts between these three camshafts.

The crow will come up to 544 valve lift with my 1.7's and the trick flow will be simular there all very close. Any experiances or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Am running 3500 convertor and its auto

the crow cam is to big for gt40p's. a crow 621371 is much better with gt40p and explorer intake taking peak rpm to 5600rpm (a guy on fordforums acheived 220rwk plus on a 220kw xr8 with this cam).

is the wade cam a re-grind?? it looks ok, but personally the trickflow would be best. cheapest and it has been proven.

All those cams would work well with 165 afr's, however you would want something along the lines of comps xe282hr if you want full advantage of the heads flow! But you need a different manifold, as peak power would be shifted to 6200-6500rpm with a cam like that.

An explorer is rated at 5500rpm, so crows 621371, tfs1 and that wade cam look good for gt40p-explorer combo or 165 afr- explorer combo (peak power will still be around 5500rpm with those 3 cams when you change over to 165 afr's but with more power as those heads flow better then gt40ps......but they CAN have better match cam for more power).

Ok so basically throw out the crow cam idea unless the afrs are allready there. The wade will probably be a re grind to save a little coin, otherwise the trickflow i can have in my hands for a measily 200 bucks as ino someone in the states atm that can buy and bring back.

Was also looking in to getting the edelbrock rpm11 manifold but though if i port the lower half of the explorer might heap flow a little better. In saying that 630 for the rpmII aussie dollars is really looking good so maybe that will be another option to compliment the setup later on down the track

From the specs you supplied on all three cams, the TFS1 comes on earlier and also comes out on top in terms of HP and Torque with good area under the curve.
The Crow really peaks its HP at around 7,000rpm which is fairly useless when using GT40P's.

Well Vic,

Im gin to be runnig a 3500 convertor so not fussed on the power coming on early but more so coming on song from 3 or so to redline which ive seen in the specs is only 5500. Once the afrs go on this cam shodul surely make more power after standard limit im guessing??

Well decent flowing alloy heads are another matter - all bets are off! :D

But with the trusty GT40P heads, the TFS1's power peaks at around 5,500rpm or so and the torque peaks around 4,000rpm and might give you another 100ft-lbs over the Crow cam's peak torque, which is fairly substantial.
The Crow cam on decent alloy heads has a much much larger area under the curve.

I see

Something to think about. What are your thoughts on manifolds vic go with the trickflow or edelbrock as once i do get the afr might be an option to get a better one.

So much to think about so little time to enjoy.......aggghhhhh

3500rpm might isnt a good match for tfs1. It kicks in high 2000rpm, so you already have a mis-match combo. Its better then a standard stall though.....

if your getting an edelbrock II then none of those cams are good, youl loose power everywhere with the mismatched parts over an explorer. A ported explorer will only flow as much as what the gt40p's do. Porting the epxlorer will make it flow better, but only to 5500rpm beacuse it is a long runner manifold. It would be a good idea to port the explorer if you have 165 afr heads so the manifold does not become a restriction.

If your going 165 afr and edelbrock rpm II, youl need a cam to match between 6000-6500rpm. again comps 282hr is a good match. if your going to do that then go with afr 185's, notch the pistons and port match the edelbrock rpm II manifold. You will see insane n/a numbers from a 302.... 360rwhp plus!!! all streetable if you get it tuned!!!...look up hardcore 5.0l mustang forums!!

If you like to make your power with high rpm and intend to be redlining it often, a short runnered manifold would assist you so. Longer runnered manifolds like the GT40 style can help the torque a lot more. For example, I use the Cobra intake with GT40P heads as I enjoy the additional torque and maximise my area under the curve. With the extra cubes, my engine is more akin to a T3 and just makes pulling this car along just so damned effortless.

The idea about the car is its goin to be a weekender. And will see the track on a regular basis so long as calder park dont close down lol.

All these ideas are making me think.

Well i was just having a search on the trickflow trackheat manifold i can get a hold of one of them for about the same as the edelbrock rpm11.

EB5LTR the convertor i got dirt cheap and has done 300kms thats the reaosn i coudlnt resist didnt want to go spending 1200 or so for a new one.

Being that this engine has stock piston i dont think ill see more then 6k anyway as im sure the bottom end wont like it, in saying that woudl i be pretty right to say the track heat and tfs 1 with afr woudlnt be to bad or is there another option or maybe go the trickflow complete setup topend
