ever since i got the tweecer tune my car has been running considerably hotter than it used to , and im worried wat will hapn when the weather heats up..Ive punched the centre out of the thermostat and still no difference....the radiator is only a few months old too.....wher else should i be looking. ???
the timing was advanced with the tweecer i was told that the car will run a bit hotter coz its makin optimum torque and therefore producing more heat, but after a thrashing it wont cool down even cruising down the freeway at 100km..... just to giv u an idea the air temp was 19 degrees C last night....goin down the freeway sitting on 100 the whole time temp was just off red..this was over about a 60km journey and the fans were on the whole time.... |

maybe its running lean? that would cause it to heat up more than usual?

nah definatley not running lean...i have an AFR gauge on there, and when we tuned it with the tweecer we stopped it from leaning out....

what id do is wen its that hot, feel the air in the radiator with your hands.. or use that as a guage to see when the termostat is opening.. or if the air is only a bit warm once it opens maybe theres a blockage somewhere

Your engines just been rebuilt though, yeah? (about 2000km old?)
There is typically more friction in a new motor, so they produce a lot more heat... And put a thermostat back into that thing ASAP!!! |

What he said!!!!! Also... Did they do anything with EGR? EGR is great for cruising in that it allows EEC to run BUCKETLOADS of timing advance, whilst keeping the combustion temps at an acceptable level. If its been disabled and timing has been bumped up further, id expect a reasonable increase in combustion temps. Any sign of detonation at any throttle level??? Is it a wideband o2 you've got on there? Would be good to know exactly what was tweeced with tweecer....

Running with a punched out thermostat or no thermostat is a BAD for your engine....especially a new one.
What fan/fans are you running? Was that radiator in there when the old engine died? If so did you have it flushed before using it with the new engine? Hows your water pump? Pete. |

Pete. im running twin EL's....i did change them recently..i was ausing a single 16" before off a TT Volvo....but i thought the EL fans are really good so i eliminated them....and the radiator is new but it was in there when the old one died....ill be flushing it this weekend....the water pump it also good.. |

Ok sounds good.
What type and brand of Underdrive pulleys do you have if any? Do your pulleys match? For instance if you were to use say a std crank pulley and an underdrive water pump pulley(don't laugh Ive seen it done) you would of course have the pump turning way too slow. Pete. |

at the moment all the pulleys are standard.....i did hav an underdriven crank pulley but ive now gone back to std for the time being...

There is typically more friction in a new motor, so they produce a lot more heat... And put a thermostat back into that thing ASAP!!! yeah i thought bout the friction thing, but according to the oil temp gauge the oil temp is fine...about 80 degrees C whilst cruising...you'd think that with more friction oil temp would increase too... |

Fair enough...hopefully the temp settles back down after the radiator flush. |

i just flushed the radiator and engine and put a new thermostat in and its still running hot...is there a chance it has something to do with the adjustment of fuel and timing with the tweecer...this thing has me absolutley f**k...!!!!
