581hp @ 6800 rpm, at the flywheel using ONLY ford factory components (except for consumables eg cam timing gears & ring/bearings), as you probably guessed it wasn't a windsor! that was without forced induction on 98 octane fuel.
Now what were the figures after I decided to go the same route with my EL XR8.....? if my memory serves me correctly it made just over 270hp at the treads, but was tuned that fine that it varied by up to 40hp depending on the air temp.
I swore that I would NEVER again own a windsor powered car, unless some other poor had done the hard yards before me & changed almost every replacable major component.
Sorry windsor guys, but they leave a lot to be desired after driving clevo's, then trying the newer modular engines.

I'm definately a Clevo man, have owned and driven many of both.
I love the torque and note of a Clevo, it's pretty hard to beat the sound.
Great when you combine a Windsor with Clevo heads though, even built as a stocker they punch out good HP.

late model windsors have both the advantage and disadvantage of being roller blocks.. lower rpm ceiling(from excess drivetrain weight) but reduced friction.

plus windsors have an abundance of EFI go fast gear out there.. whereas ur mostly stuck with carby on clevos(unless ur tricky/resourceful)..

ps id take a clevo if i could except for my car its too big/difficult to use

i have 2 xy models one is a clevland which i drive and the other is windsor that i let my girl drive that speaks for its self i think. And my clevo revs over 8000 rpm i did have to spend some good money to make it rev like that but there is no way i even concidered spending the money on the windsor they dont have any torque that can compete against a clevo and fill a windsor car full of grown men and it wont pull the skin of a rice pudding yet the clevo seams relativlly unafected by the extra weight
and well it costs double to build a windsor up tuff and you only get a fraction of the performance then if you spent the money on a clevo

GO THE CLEVO TRUSTY TRUCK BLOCK AND STUMP PULLER

i run a full stud kit and gertal not coz i need it but for piece of mind and when 500hp at the treads wants to bend something i want the protection wether a clevo or windsor

like martin, i've only ever driven a windsor so thats all i have to go on.

reading through the posts though the clevo sounds like it was a pretty good motor although i can't help feeling that some are reminiscing a little and the memory has faded a little as to what they were really like.

what about stock v stock. my impression of the old 351's in stock form (ho's aside) was that they were a boat anchor. a lot of noise that went nowhere. they were fast in their time but compared to now - not that special.

when you look up old figures they are less than impressive. the phase 3 was in the 14's but i'm talking stock ford, not gt or ho. the first of the modern windsors resurrected in the eb did a 15.7 which is close to anything built before it.

maybe the clevo responds a bit better to some minor/major modding. i can't answer that but going from some figures posted in this thread they can be a real weapon.

Imagine a factory 351 C made today with roller cam and injection, i wonder how that would compare!?!?

For me it's not that long ago that i can't remember it, and i still plan on doing another Clevo, i still have crank and rods, roller rockers, arp rod and head bolts, main stud kit, Isky solid cam and a heap of other bits packed away.

funny how people do a modern windsor v old clevo comparison doesn't that answer is for you. imagine a modern clevo if the factory developed one instead of the windsor damn it would be awesome.

351 clevelands are magic.Got a bombed one in my xe.Strong as an ox an can take a caning.Been in a lot of fast ford and holdens new and old over my years but manual 351s are my favourite. They sound so good when they are revved out only 351s have had me pinned me in the seat s*** scared thinking im going to die this thing is frightening.I cant agree more with the previous post how good it would have been if they kept the 351 in production and developed it.fuel injection, alloy heads, roller cam etc. They were even exporting them to italy in the xe days and they were putting them in de tomaso panteras and putting webbers on them!Holden kept the 308 holdens motors through the 80s and kept the enthusiasts because of it and is still one of the main reasons i think holden is more popular.

Cleveland - the blocks are much better in standard form than the windsor even if the oiling system needs some tweaking.

That is a big downfall on a Clevo, it's oiling system isn't the best.

When fitting a solid cam to a Clevo, be sure to fit a restrictor kit to it.

Argh, all this talk makes me want to start on my rebuild.

I'm still trying to find out how my old Boss motor went, i sold it to a guy in Qld and he was putting it into an XY.
It was a 351W stroked to 376 with a pair of Gatt bros 2V high port heads, 6 inch steel rods, Wiseco custom made forgies, Manley severe duty stainless valves, the list goes on, if that didn't pump out 550 to 600 reliable HP then i'll bare my a*** in Bourke street.
It still needed a few grand to finish and get it in the car, i needed cash so i sold it for $5500, the heads assembled were worth more than that.

Yeh me and the old man were keen as to build a 351 windsor boss motor for years.Small, fairly lightweight block with fire breathing 351 clevo heads.Youre right walker they need oil restrictor kits and a larger capacity sump(high energy etc)

this is my 393 clevo stroker with massive solid roller cam 712' lift this is what we did to the return oil valley to stop it from oiling up it actualy has a high volume oil pump but we seriously opened up all the return oil holes so she could flow freally coz the last thing you want to do is restrict oil flow and not get enough oil so opening it up is the answer you can see in te pics what im talking about.... s**t pic to big any one no how to compress a pic so it fits in....

open it up in mspaint, then save it as a jpg. If it already is a jpg, go to the 'image' menu, then go to 'Stretch and Skew' In the stretch part it will have 100% in both horizontal and verticle, you want to change those to say, 50% in both. That will make the imige half as tall and half as wide, without losing much quality at all. It makes the file size roughly 1/4 the original size.
