Im looking at buying an EL XR8 im looking at two ones sitting on 238 and the other on 225 are these high k's for the winsors i know for a six its high but for an 8 im not sure.

i wouldn't consider it very high for a 6, not, for say, an ef onwards.

That's not high for a windsor. MrLandau has an NL with over 500 000 and the motor has never been opened.

The windsors will go strong for well over 300,000, I would pay more attention to the suspension, trans and diff as they are all getting pretty old.

My EL Fairmont Ghia V8 has 292,000ks on it at the moment at the motor is still awesome. Doesnt use oil or blow smoke. EDXR8 is right I would look at the transmission and diff first. My torque converter is bit worn needs replacing.

i'd definately look at other components quite carefully as these engines do last for a long time. Steering, suspension, transmission and just general wear and tear occurs, remember the more kilometers its done, the more use every component in the car has had, including things like window winders, central locking, cruise etc etc.

Personally I would go for something with less kilometers, everything has had less use and lower kilometers have a better resale value

my AU II XR8 220KW has has 150 on the clock and it still as sharp as ever.. and i give it a flogging every where i go...

I have '94 ef XR6 on 345,000kms. Only drama was the head gasket, as expected. Diff and axles whine and grind, but the 6 pulls as hard as ever.
Love the XRs.

EB 2 Wagon 4.0 M-Point , 5 Speed. 299,524... just did the clutch on it a week ago , diff has a bit of backlash that i dont really help alot. does not burn oil at all , no trace of smoke even when driving hard. i would personally imagine that an 8 would last longer than a 6 , as a 6 should last longer than a 4 correct?

my NL is just shy of 430,000 and has been ruunin LPG since being 12 months old. still runs like a trooper, no smoke or oil but can be a little rattley on start up (piston skirts). But like Offyaguts says its the other bits for wear'n tear

the amount of kays the cars have ur lookn at is stuff all, i have an el xr8 with 226000kays and it drives and runs excellent, im currently selln it 4 $6500, needs a guard, airbags and windscreen done. email me if intersted

I agree, the KMS arent a worry, however due to general wear and tear id always go for the lower kms over the higher kms mainly due to susp/trans/diff/panel condit/interior condit.. it all adds up.

Engine wise modern fords are doing good IMHO:

1st - NFII Fairlane Sportsman, 145,000kms, never opened, NO headgaskets!

2nd - EBII Fairmont, 216,000kms LPG 90% of its life, one gasket done at around 100,000kms then thats it, going hard!

3rd - NL FBT, 106,000kms, never opened, like new.

Like all engines plenty of oil changes and keep good coolant in them....Most the diff noise came as an extra when you bought it! No mater what model....Even then, new bearing and properly put together and they run BETTER than new...
Most rattles on start up would be tappets or lifters are taking there time to pump up, timing chain also on 6's.... [Or you'd like to think so?]

Or just pay far less than the amount asked for so that you can replace worn items without going too overboard on your wallet.
