hey guys just got the engine back in my ef xr8 tonight and wired it all up and blah blah blah.
so the problem is it wont fire so i checked and triple checked the timing and spark and its all fine. next onto fuel, it seems as if there is only fuel giong to the number 8 cylinder? when you turn it over it coughs a bit like its only firing on one cylinder. so what do i check next? what can cause fuel to only one cylinder? any help would be fantastic thanks

could be a smartlock problem, check the CTLMP Fuse in the cabin, check with a meter, not just a visual inspection.

Is the ground at the passengers side rear of the inlet manifold connected, not sure what it does, but if engine was installed complete it may have been left off.

yeah checked the fuse cause had that prob with a mates xr and its all good

and do you mean the little earth wire that does up on one of the bolts on the rear of the lower manifold? if so thats on and done up.

could it be a fuel pressure prob? i can hear the fuel pump kick over when you turn the key.

Not sure, got me stumped now

Firing order is correct( leads on the right way) dont mean to be nasty but it is usually something really silly. ( is the dizzy out by 180 deg maybe )

yeah triple checked the leads and made sure it wasnt out 180 i have put it to TDC about 6 times and re done everything about 6 times tonight haha cause thats what i thought it must be.

but when i pull the plugs out only number 8 has fuel on it. thought fuel lines might be round the wrong way so tried the other way around and it made no difference and just checked against a few pics then and i definatly had them the right way.

if the ECU gets no crank position signal, it will not fire the injectors. TFI sends the crank/cam position info to the ECU, meaning if it is dead, no fuel and no spark

to check, put a screwdriver on the injector body when you are cranking to see if you can 'feel' them opening.
you reckon 8 is, so start with that so you can see what it feels like.

if they are stuck, soak them in injector cleaner, give them a quick 12v direct from a battery.
or take them somewhere to get them cleaned.
i dunno, 3 months doesn't seem that long, might not be that, but it's worth a check.

i'd check fuel pressure too, where'd you have the rails disconnected, havent managed to mix up return and feed or something?

theres a schraeder valve (spelling? think tyre valve) on the front drivers side of the rail, you'll need a fuel pressure gauge with the fitting for it.
i ended up putting a little one on there permanently, can get 'em from VPW and Rocket and s**t, if you get them to suit a 5.0L they come with an adaptor from the valve to 1/8" npt.
