Filled up a tank full at Woolworths petrol last night coz I couldnt be bothered driving 12km to a shell, after I filled up I asked the attendant what their premiums octane rating was and he said 95.
Does the Au 8 need 98 premium? Will this cause probs?

Nah, 95 octane is fine mate. That's the general rating for premo. 98 is premo-premo.
What kinda fuel (i.e. oil company) does woolies use?

I agree with fuz here, wouldnt touch it unless running a POS you dont care about..
I wouldnt let a drop touch my cars fuel tank if i can knowingly prevent it! Ran it in my old fairlane once or twice (in desperate need) and it was always making the engine louder to my ears n it ran rough, cant remember economy to be honest.

There's two types of Woolworths servos, one is caltex affiliated and the other one is straight safeway. The ones that are the straight Safeway Plus+ use s**t Singapoore fuel which is no good and the Caltex ones use caltex fuel, which is supposedly the same as Ampol fuel as well - therefore my conclusion is that Ampol Gold and Caltex Premium (can't think of its other name) are the same fuel. The Mobil 800 I think is 98 RON whereas the other two are 95 RON.

Yeah i have been using Caltex Vortex for some time before they were bought out by Woolworths. I have found it to be probably as good a fuel as any and i really dont trust Optimax - Cost for benefits as well as a number of reports... I had my car tuned up with a uni chip about 6 months ago, and i had it done using the vortex. When you get chips mapped for your car, your better off keeping to that same fuel so thats the plan for now. Happy enough with it and havent had any problems.
I would try to avoid Woolies fuel that isnt affiliated with Caltex though. If it doesnt have the Caltex sign out the front - assume nothing...

Every Woolies I have been to use Caltex Vortex and that is what I use to use everyday anyway. Never had a problem with it. With woolies however, you don't actually save 4c/L. Their normal prices are 2c above the price of the others bowsers so you you really on save 2c/L.

LOL! I find the safeway plus+ petrol stores ARE cheaper round here, altho i wouldnt run my car off them after my 1st and only tank full - ill put it down to a bad experience, im not going out n bagging the whole company as such, just that fuel I had was pretty dodge!

its not that it is dirty is just doesnt have to same octane level as normal fuel, we did a test with my sisters accent, drove the car the same way 2 differnt weeks one using standard woolies fuel (when it was just woolies not caltex) and one using standard caltex fuel, and the difference was power and econmy, the woolies fuel got like 100k's less then the caltex stuff
it was all imported from asia somewhere very cheaply i use woolies/caltex fuel in my car now and dont have any probs, and plus its always the cheapest by a cheap of cents!

I think all the Woolies servos here in Adelaide are under Caltex now.
I use Vortex in my car and it runs perfectly.

Hate to tell you all, but Woollies done away with Plus petrol some time back, Caltex runs the show, any one working there are not Woollies employees any more, I know this because I was an agent for Fujitsu while Caltex was taking over it, Fujitsu repaired the POS, computer/and related equipment.
So if you have a complaint about the fuel you are only buying Caltex fuels, not any imported or other local brand fuels as they were doing before. This was change over was finished before mid last year.
