G'day all, recently bought a xe with a 351/C4 . The car was suss to start all way home but won't crank at all now. Has 14.8 volts at battery, starter throw out arm works but it won't crank over, pulled starter out, stripped and cleaned it, tested on bench and it spins, Battery near new, atternator new, main cables look to have been replaced at some stage. With jumper leads attached it cranked intermittantly but not each time i turned the key?
I wondering if there's a voltage drop between the key to starter wiring? but the throw out solaniod clicks each time? Car was originally a 6 cyl, manual. Any advice anyone? |

Make sure the engine will physically turn by hand. If not, the starter motor wont do anything. Is the gearbox/driveline jammed up? Also make sure that your engine to body earths are good and your battery to engine and body earths. Try manually shorting out the starter motor to see if it cranks. What about some fault with the neutral safety switch on the auto?
Hope this helps, Gab |

Very common problem.
They never get enough current throughthe ignition for the solenoid to work correctly. They will click and do nothing. Take the wire off the solenoid and use that to fire a relay. That way you get good 12V and current to the solenoid.

Based on that fact my Mum is the best around! |
