gtp's didn't arrive until au so won't have them but will have explorer manifold, same as later el xr8's.

late el xr8's got 185kw but not sure if the ute's got the same upgrades and power.

easy to tell by looking though. explorer manifold has staggered runners whereas ho will be in a straight line if you get what i mean.

Manifold is actually GT40. Very similar to Explorer, but apparently slightly better flowing.

I got one with the XH2 donor car i used

Yep and they also have the EL GT headers which bumps it up to 185kw along with the explorer/gt-40 manifold but still running E7 heads.

The XHII XR8 was the first to get the GT40P "Explorer" heads....according to the FPV website at least;

EL 2 didn't get GT40 heads. They only got E7s. Some of what is on the FPV site is incorrect. God knows why because you'd think they should know.

Can confirm that thats bullshizen on the FPV site

E7's is what they have. GT40s first appeared on AU1

u can look for the cast marks. they're not there. I ended up buying GT40 heads for mine

GT40 was on EBGT, Sprint and ELGT

FBT was first car to have GT40P heads

XHII has E7 heads and EXPLORER manifold, not GT40 as EBGT and ELGT were the only cars to have them.

This is fact, dont believe anything else, I have the original FBT, XHXR8, ELII XR8 and ELGT here to prove the doubters.

Ahh yes - your are correct with the special models before AU that had GT40 heads. I shoulda made myself clearer - as i was only talkin mass production cars (ie XR8's) - obviously not talking about the GTs.

The manifold on my XHII XR8 motor DEFINATELY does not have an explorer manifold! It has a GT40 'COBRA' itake - which is not the same as the GT/Sprint either (which is also known as GT40). It looks very similar to the Explorer manifold.

The lower intake is the same on all EB + EL GT/ED Sprint/ELII/XHII. Only the upper differs....

Thats a cobra intake, yes, never standard on any australian car other than the Sprint.
I would say someone has fitted it to your engine, because its definitely not factory XR8

I think u will find it is in fact factory! Ask a few other people with XH XR8s and they will back me up on this.

Here's a pic of the donor ute i used before i stripped it. This ute was stock as a rock. original plugs and leads. no-one had even taken valve covers off.....

In a world of pixie clives and leprechauns they may have been factory, but not in the real world.
I did own one mate, and test drove them new, when you were at school. Trust me, the cobra manifold NEVER came stock on XH utes.

Would you like me to dig out the original sales brochures and show you the pics in them?

All EL 185 engines, and all later XR8 engines have explorer manifolds. XH and AU are the same with no EGR, and ELII have EGR, and are the only ones with it.

Nah mate, mine definately has an explorer and so has every other XH XR8 i've seen. The only aussie car that came with the cobra was the EB GT AFAIK.
Someone has definately fitted that manifold afterwards, maybe the original buyer of the car knew someone at the dealer and got hooked up with the cobra manifold from spare parts or something, but then again why would you bother????

OK cool. Point taken from all.

The one i picked up though must have been some sort of special order or some sort of limited build, because the engine cover is a different design to that with an explorer intake. (explorer type has extra black bit covering TB and a bit of intake)

I wonder if theres any more out there like mine...
