We are going to do a V8 conversion to a mates XP ute, and we are wondering if a clevo will fit in there, or would a windsor be easier. we dont want to spend lots of cash, so an injected one is out. a clevo would be prefered, but we are up for options
cheers guys |

clevo big and heavy, little windsor light and revvy, those XP's become unbalanced when you put in a clevo, my choice would be 289 windsor and a toploader, maybe 302 windsor if its auto.

what do you mean an injected windsor is out cause its too expensive. Do you know what sort of dollars you can pick up a good running EB-ED V8 engine as a conversion for? Cheaper than recoing an old carby and still more reliable.

im in the ACT and i havent really been able to find sources for windsor stuff. clevos are like a***hole, everyones got one, so its very easy to find stuff. we will be keeping it auto.

oh c'mon, windsors are just as common, especially late model stuff
IIRC to go a V8 swap in an XP means upgrading brakes and suspension to XR V8 specs, but i'd stick with a short deck windsor

yeah, ill defineately have to look into this, what does a half decent efi windsor and box retail for, and how hard is it to wire the loom up. we are looking at doing this ourselves, so keeping it carby would make this fairly easy. anyhow im up for all options

late model 5L is a great option for an old car but going the clevo is also a great option... choice depends on your mechanical/technical experience really

What is the Budget ???? A Clevo will cost under $2000 in relatively stock (rebuilt) form A fuel injected 351 Windsor can be had for similar money... if you look hard enough And if you look real hard you probly find a late model imported 460 truck motor for that much as well... Whats this ute going to be used for? Too answer your Question.... Yes the Cleveland will fit |

ill pm you if we decide to go the clevo route!! the car is pretty much a show car/ car that gets driven quite regularly. but as you say the extra weight can be problematic to the XP? can this be over come with heavy duty springs, or is there more involved. the car doesnt really have to handle like its on rails, but it needs to be safe enough to drive around the place.

the clevo will be quicker and cheaper than the 289 or 302W but it is heavier, for a drag car the clevo prob be best, a track car the 302 prob best. A street car-well thats up to you!

yeah i think we will go the clevo route. now that thats sorted, what is actually involved? will we need custom engine mounts or will the falcon ones do? also will a C4 auto line up to the auto thats already in it? eg tunnel spacing etc? thanks for the help everyone.
