Which is quicker 0-100km/h and 1/4 mile? Absolutely standard car?

EL XR6 164kw auto or

EL XR8 170kw auto?

My friends say the XR6 will leave the V8 flapping in the wind.

I dunno about flapping in the wind but yes - the ELXR6 has a better quarter mile time IIRC.

Mate, all stock XR6's are quicker than their 'big" brother, the XR8.

It was really only the AUIII XR8 that was appreciably quicker.

I wouldn't say that an XR6 will "flog" an XR8, but it will show it whose the boss.

Oh and don't forget, that the XR6 had a shorter final drive ration than the XR8. Both manual and auto.

True. But they never get boring :)

Plus you gotta remember that there are plenty of newbies coming on board and they haven't been involved in these discussions.

I'm always happy to discuss this topic :)

hmm.. being at home today, i decided to have a look in motor magazine 4/99 issue.
this is for au, not el xr's.

AU XR6 HP - 7.88 0-100, 15.33 1/4
AU XR6 VCT - 8.07 0-100, 15.59 1/4
AU XR8 - 7.20 0-100, 15.00 1/4

It's amazing how much lighter the HP is than the VCT, 120kg lighter infact.

A series 1 EL XR8 wont be as quick as the XR6, but get a Series 2 EL XR8, and it'd be a different story.
The good old IRS helped the AU XR6 VCT pork up an fair bit!

What was the difference between series 1 & 2 in the EL XR8. I know the S2 had explorer inlet. Mine's an S2 OPT 20 police pack. Feels a bit slow off the line till I reach about 60Km/h then it starts to pick up. My mate has a manual EF XR6 with upgraded cam and exshaust and it feels heaps quicker than my XR8.

Any of the manuals are going to feel a fair bit pokier off the mark than a standard auto.

It is just a more direct drive without the power wasteage of a torque converter. Also the lower gearing of the first gear in the manual allows greater acceleration.

Not in my case. EL XR8 is slower by .3 down the quarter.
Both my driving and both are manuals.

I wonder what it is with EL XR8's. seeing that they run the same engine as the American Mustang and they reckon that the mustangs have awsome acceleration. A bit disappointing really
