in the e series there is 7kw diffrence (xr8 is 170kw and v8 is 163) that gain is purely from the exhaust system.

what model?

Generally the XR8 is a HO version of the 8 used in the other feature packs.

eg. with the BA's the XR8 gets the 260KW BOSS, while the XT/Fairmont/etc. gets the 220KW 8

From EB - EL1 the motors were the same but the XR's had a more free flowing exhaust system. The XR's and Fairmonts seem to share the same ECU from 95-98 so there is definately no difference there.
The EL2 XR8 profited from an Explorer manifold, 65mm throttle body and 70mm airflow meter to push the power up to 185kw

That must be the 10 Kw difference between my FBT and your ElXR8 2. I wonder what the GT40P heads do then????
My mates ELXR8 2 has the same 70mm as mine - he purchased his new and doesn't play with cars..He has other strange stuff on it too...

Nice mix of 'old skool' and new in there, just needs a BA GT/GTP to top it off.

Probably nothing until a bigger cam goes in, then the GT40P would probably kick ahead.

Depending on how late in the series 2,alot of weird things turn up on the later EL's.Mates EL XR8 has different MAF(smaller)and throttle body(again smaller)than mine, yet was built only 2 month earlier(mines 5/98).Perhaps being towards the end of series they were getting rid of left over(?) stock or perhaps fitting AU gear..........

Spare a thought for us late EL I6 peeps. AU head/cam, EL block with AU parts. Some got unpainted engine bays and/or rocker covers...
