hey guys, i'm looking into purchasing an ED xr8 sprint, and i just wanted to get a quick heads up on any known probs with the EB GT motor and drivetrain... i know the diff and gearbox can be a bit noisy, but is there anything i should really keep an eye out for when i take it for a test drive?

nothing particular to the sprints IMO, just look for anything that's a normal issue with the EA-ED body

Motor and drivetrain, look at the same for all E series v8s... cooling systems need to be looked after, transmission fluid needs to be looked after. The windsors are very durable, just usual wear n tear stuff - belts, idler pulleys etc.

I dont think any of the go fast bits on the sprint would cause any problems...

Yep look out for coolant, corossion is an issue on timing cover...Nothing major though..If manual check firewall for cracks..Though they made more power there was no extra reliability issues with them.Other than abuse and mileage,,,

That's the beauty of supercharging - if you ever decide you want to return to standard, simply remove the blower and return the engine to normal. Hey presto - one stock sprint coming right up!!

Personally i see the blower as a much more 'reversible' option than taking meat out of the heads and tinkering with compression ratios.

Thats it, superchargers can be installed or removed in a day or two with no signs it was there (unless it is a Vortech then you will have an oil return line in your sump). I saw the sprint on Ebay, looks really nice.

I was about 5 mins away from buying one a while ago.

Found old accident damage tho so had to give it a miss.

Fun cars to drive tho.

Mate,
I ahve seen that one on Ebay.
I have a Sprint. Those options are to kill for...
Sunroof, Trip Computer, Cruise, Premium sound, MANUAL...

With 97,000 on the clock I would think his reserve would be around at least $15,000+ If it goes for anything less it is a steel..

Check for craks in the firewall near the clutch cable. Common fault. in all Manual E series.
I noticed it did not have the srpint badges on the front guards (in the pic). He may have them. You can get them from Rarespares still..

See Fordforums.com for more info on sprints. I wrote up a fairly long list of things that are different on sprints. I have had mine for 6 months and it is a beast... Goes like the clappers... Manual.. Happy camper..

Good luck.
