Got a call from a mate tonight who said he was racing someone earlier and when he let off the accellorator, the car choked, engine light came on for a bit then went off. Now when you drive it normally it goes ok until you put your foot down it makes no power. The revs still build gradually like you had 1/4 throttle only? But no kick back surge of power. Checked the intake thinking it was blocked but its fine, it starts and idles fine. Could it be a fuel pressure problem?

Very likely. I've had constant fuel pressure probs in my 5.0 for years.

Does it backfire through the airbox under load?

Mike

Check maf or clean..
Check for air leaks between maf and engine?
Check all fuel delivery.. Pump, filter etc..
Ignition as in leads, cap and plugs..
If in doubt? Replace...
Check cats ?? They may have broken and restricting exhaust??

Might be totally wrong, but do xr8 have 'limp mode' where it suspects something is wrong with the engine and the computer won't let you drive it hard...?

Run a diagnostic check. If it's sensors or anything like that, it'll tell you

Problem solved, the exhaust split open at the front. No backpressure. Who would have thought?
