Ok, biggest issue with my 347 project is that theres been too much time between purchasing the AU donk and anything happening. Too much time means i've been thinking about other options. The GT40Z is quite appealing, with its 2.02/1.60 valves and moddest flow potential All for $800USD a side (complete, minus rockers), its looking a little tempting.
Now I guess the question is, is it worth it? An extra $1500 outlay (after selling my GT40P's), as opposed to spending some money on the GT40P's to get them flowing a little better. $/HP I guess

$/Hp I don't think you can go past GT40P's. If you are chasing every hp you can get then you want to look at something like AFR 185's but for a decent streeter then the GT40P's are a great choice IMO.
If you are looking for some alloys though, it is worth considering the Edelbrock 5L Performer heads (lost a bit of their appeal recently but IMO a great head at a good price), some trickflows or of course the AFR's. |

Ah you mean Z304's...they're not GT40 heads.
I'd use them over 40p's any day but, it depends what you have and what you want. If you have 40p's that cost you stuff all it is probably cost effective to hog em out and fit big valves.... assuming you don't have header clearance problems or don't care if you have. If you have to buy heads the aftermarket has better performing heads out of the box. Plus you can get ally ones which have obvious advantages and no header problems. I agree with EDXR...Edelbrock heads are excellent and the new performer heads have revised ports that make them even better. Is this going to be a big comp, big stick engine? Another new head worth considering is the Kasse windsor head. It is canted valve design with stock port locations...it makes AFR 185/205(and pretty much every other head) heads look out of date. I think they are around $850 each loaded. Pete. |

Sorry, GT40Z probably wasn't the best way to refer to them.
$800USD/side (complete) is about my price mark if I'm going to consider something other than the GT40P's which are sitting on my AU donk in the garage. Its going to be a very streetable daily driver, 4sp auto, want lots of low-down go. Just wanna get from A to B (quickly, and cheaply on LPG). Of course theres no doubt that i'll throw it down the strip for fun.. but 400m times arent a high priority. Perhaps I'll just look at getting some larger valves and some reasonable flow out of the 40P's... if I can get it done for less than $800USD/Side and flowing similar figures, I'll be laughing

You're not going to be able to get similar flow results compared with the aftermarket heads but you may not need that much flow anyway as it isn't going to be an all out race engine. My GT40P's with larger valves and minor bowl work flow 220/170cfm which isn't too bad for a ford production head. Porting doesn't seem to yeild all that much with these heads because you apparently cannot take much material out from the ports (or so I have been told), but larger valves obviously do work quite well. |

From memory they are 1.9" and 1.54" valves. Have a look at the pic im my gallery, I don't think you could go much bigger.

Is there a website with Kasse heads on it?

I beleive I'm in love! Where do i sign?
Anyone wanna buy a pair of GT40P's??? They state quite clearly that existing intake manifolds will fit. Thats a good start.. they also said that most exhaust manifolds will also fit up.. should I assume my existing Genies will bolt up without any issues?
