The decision needs to be made as to whether you want it to be stock, or modify it. Fitting a later model alloy head Xflow (ULP) engine and tranny is a way better upgrade...even if it is a std Xflow engine. You need a plan....stick to the plan....(saves money).....and any deviation from the plan will cost you more than you will realise. The plan will have engine, trans, diff, tailshaft, brakes, suspension, wheels & tyres, paint, interior, electrics, glass, chrome work, rust work, body mods, mods in general, etc.....there's a lot in it. Not trying to scare you, just to give you any ideas you may not have thought of........

Hi,
I don't think an Alloy X-flow head will fit. If a 2V head fits, then that would be the go. It had a separate inlet manifold which had much better flow. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Straight-6_engine

Here's an XK, with a 250, 2V, and supercharger..........

Hi,
Yes, they went to a 7 bearing in the mid 60's. The head still may fit, I have seen Jap engines that came as push-rod or DOHC, same block. A 300 cube engine with the 2V head and good carbs, that would really move ! Still look sort of original too. Being a light car, it would be a great sleeper, a big 4 barrel under the standard air cleaner and it would look stock. Imagine a Cop looking at the engine after you blew the doors off a Commode V8 ! 6cyl and no blower !

The 300 cube inline 6 from the F series look like a giant 202 Holden engine....I don't think a 250, 2V head will fit on it.

I'd like to throw my 0.02c in on 2v heads....frankly, not really sure if they're worth the trouble - I had one on a 250 in my XB for years. Problem is, they have enormous ports and runners which normally is good for high rpm....problem is, early ford 6's don't like big revs ( before you jump in about late X Flow 250's, I am ONLY talking about early 170 - 250 pre x flows). they just don't work that well at high revs. Personally I think if you want to stick with an early motor like a 170, you may as well go with either a 250 head or preferably a 200 head... OK, not that great at high revs - but these motors don't rev. Keep your torque up and make your power down low.
