You will need an 82 to about 6/83 XE, after that, they were I6 only. You will need the mountings for a V8 as the I6 ones are different. The mountings I am refering to are the ones on the crossmember. I'm not sure if the trans mounting points were changed or not, as in on the body. The early ones have 2 mounting points ( I6 & V8 )....I6 is further back.

id prefer to use the 460 big block, only cause its cooler and alot bigger, and a 557ci stroker kit is only around $2200. can't remember which shop the kit is from though but its normanlly in street machine. they also sit real nice in a XD-XF

It depends on what you want to do with the car.
If you want a nice smooth, economical cruise/drive car with a nice V8 sound and plenty of grunt, go for a late model efi windsor, with the 4 speed auto or 5 speed manual. If you want a big grunty engine with heaps of power and are not worried about fuel econ, etc, go for a clevo, with a 393 stroker kit. If you have LOTS of money, go for a big block ford, as mentioned above. Not sure about rego anymore tho - used to be a bit tricky in qld with a 460.... My choice would be an EFI windsor, with a 347 stroker kit, good alloy heads, and a 5 speed. Good power and not a fuel guzzler.....

That's cheap - must be 9-series cast crank, and el-cheapo KB pistons. I suppose you would only get crank, rods and pistons for that price. Is it a balanced kit?
Performance wholesale do a balanced kit, with everything (except gaskets) to assemble the short motor, for approx $3000.00, with SRP pistons and scat crank/rods.

If you want to go cheapo do what I did, find a rusty / defected car (mine was a ZH Fairlane, recond 351 clevo with about 40,000 kms, FMX auto and 9 inch for $500) - that way you get mounts, wiring, you name it, its there - plus you get to sell off everything you don't need... After I pulled the motor and a bunch of other stuff I sold the fairlane for - wait for it - $500 PLUS I sold my old 6 on this forum for $450 - I still have a set of mags and tyres off it to sell plus lots of other stuff so I've actually turned quite a profit that's more than paid for a new engine hoist, spring compressors and a few other bits I needed... this was about 18 months ago and I'm loving the end result!! Oh, and its even on LPG so relatively cheap to run as well!!
