hey guys. hope someone can shed some light on this situation for me.
im trying to gain access to my fuel pump to replace. my XH is ute with a hard tray, there is no panel to remove on the tray except a bunch of rivets holding the front panel down (closest to the front of the body). i have removed the seats and exposed the panels to the cargo bay but there isnt a panel to gain straight access there either. i have read that i need to remove brakes, u bolts spring and slide rear axel back to drop the tank and gain access... is this the only way ? any information would be appreciated... thank you.. |

The panel at the front of the tray floor is what U need to remove. You may have to knock the rivets out at the back of the panel although I have never come across one with rivets; normally there is a line of screws.

yeh looks like ill have to pop the tray from above. no panels behind seats come off, theyre all structural and welded.

yup, it's the one with the screwdriver on it in your pics.
Once you've freed it up the fuel tank is right there and easy to access. The panel on mine just sits there not even screwed down. |

thanks for the confirmation man, took me a fair bit of tom-foolery to make the decision. this is by far the easiest way... at least i wont have a problem re-fixing the tray back down.. brackets or whatever... easy stuff. what a dilema trying to access the tank.. LOL

i think for re-fital ill just jimmy up some straight brackets and possibly some smaller L brackets and seal a nice rubber mat over the whole thing. would be nice if there was a panel you could just unscrew easily.... or if the tray had hex screws... all the heads on mine are all borked. although, not a problem.

I was thinking about using 1/4 turn screws or fitting a couple of boaty type lock thingies, but since I'm a lazy a*** I just rely on it's self weight, never been a problem so far.

Nice.
IIRC there's a couple of hints on replacing the fuel pump on here, might be worth a quick search unless you've done one before. My own little pearl of wisdom would be not to smoke while doing the job. I was in the back of a mates Magna with the fuel hose off and spanner in my hand when my mate pointed out the glowing fiery thing wedged between my lips (what an idiot). |

Well done.
Wouldn't mind a quick run down on how you change the fuel filter, I've got one sitting in a box waiting to go on, just not got round to it yet. |
