gday
I've heard countless stories about the gear stick in these breaking off due to a plastic clip or something along those lines is it easily solvered by just welding? any insight will be muchly appreciated Paul. |

ah yes. they have a big nylon nut thing that winds into the box and it also has metal edge which once screwed in they fold over to stop it winding out. if you give the shifter a hard time (harsh gear changes) it'll break off easy.
If it does break just buy one from Ford

I used to fold the metal tabs down and put a few screws through them into the shifter housing, it worked a treat.
You can also buy steel replacement nuts that apparently fix the problem. |

Yes you can still get the replacment alloy unit.
I had one in my single rail before i put the 5spd in. Try any ford joints like ford muscle parts, or any joint that does early chrysler spares. They also run single rails. |

I used to buy the nylon replacement nuts from Mitsubishi for about $6 each,they use them in some Sigma's apparently.I bought them 5 at a time and always had a spare stick ready to go in the boot,just in case.
