THe factory air conditioning in my XC wont change from floor to face level ect. It is only blowing on to the floor. I have checked the vac lines in the engine bay which seem ok, is there somewhere else to check?

Pretty sure its a cable for that. Check the clips on the cable, they are known to come off.

The heater controls sure are cable and you nee to be a contorsionist to get the bastards back on. From memory the cable your looking for should be on the passenger side of the console.

The floor/face control is definitely vacuume operated with the air con. The actuator can be easily accessed if you remove the glove box. It is mounted vertically and you can see the arm that it attaches to under the ash tray from the passengers side. The actuator is heavily spring loaded and needs to have absolutely no vacuume leaks to make it work properly. You may find the leaks elsewhere in the system make this valve fail first.

That was it, a small split in the line going to the manifold works great now. What is the inline valve for that is marked VAC for, some type of one way valve? |

Yeah it is a one way valve. It is to stop the vacuume to the dash valves being lost when you have your foot flat on the throttle. The later model cars have a large vacuume canister hidden under the dash which stops the system going crazy.
I had to add a canister when i put the bigger cam into my engine. This cam dropped manifold vacuume enough to stop my dash controls from working properly. |
