Hello again Fordmodders!

Normally this would be a much shorter post, but I thought I’d reintroduce myself. It’s been ages since I’ve been here, I used to have a modded EB XR6... and a different user name :?

I'm back in a Ford again, I just bought an XH with some nice wheels from a mate. He’s dumped in a low kms el motor with BB manifold and honestly it’s been a good ride (as far a xh drivability is concerned)
Now, The problem is! Every time I go into his workshop I end up walking out with something! This time it’s been a donor AU xr8 200kw. All I have to do is head gaskets XD
____________________
So with everything there needed for a full AU 5L transplant into my xh, I was just looking to confirm a few things.

1) From the looks, K-frame in XH is the same as EL/F. How will I go with mounting?
2) Any sump modifications?
3) Will exhaust need custom work at some point?
4) And finally! BCM – I know most recommend a j3 to bypass Smartshield. However I wouldn’t mind keeping it so I was thinking about transplanting everything AU… How would I go using AU BCM and dash loom? – can it control xh dash or can I even put in an au dash?

Thanks for reading - great to be back (ps, i will post the build)

Erm, I probably should've mentioned more clearly that it's currently a 6cyl rather than just hinting at a BBM manifold  oops

Hi mate, this is the same thing I was going to do-but ended up opting for a ba barra 182 with fg manifold T5 & au bellhousing(into xg ute)am hoping for 200 kw with a few mods and the better breathing manifold, au 5l in a xh would be awesome I think, I'm sure there's a few been done on here before that could help you with info, try using the search, anyway sounds awsome & best of luck, looking forward to seeing your V8-XH with a new lease on life, , cheers, , John.

Thanks mate. I'm still working out whether I'm using dizzy and e series ecu or using au ecu and coils. I'm keeping the xh dash now.
Have to see how I'll go wiring an au dash loom to run xh dash
Or I'll go the easy option haha.

I had another thread on here somewhere asking the benefits of au ecu and coilpacks but it didn't have any hits lol

Hello, yea I was wondering that myself, I know with the I6 your definitely better with the au ecu opposed to the e series with the au having sequential injection and some other upgrades from the old e-series, was considering using an au ecu with my barra conversion (cams have to be locked) J3 chip, but am going with the BA 5 speed ecu flashed tuned to run as stand alone, check which ecu will give you better performance maybe?, I think au may work better though IMO, john

I'm pulling the dash loom and bcm out of the au on Saturday. Gonna have a look and see if I can figure out how to integrate all au wiring, bcm and loom with the xh dash. Its a completely different plug on the cluster, that I know, I really don't know what im in for and how im going to get it all to work... plus my auto elec skills are amateur as hell.

Man your so lucky having a doner car-it can make things a bit easier, all the wiring & bits you could take forever and cost alot more trying to get it all together, yea you could almost use the whole lot engine gearbox ecu harness, you could maybe mod the xh housing to take the au cluster-if its worth using, if I could have I would have loved to use a smashed ba xr6 ute as a doner, but have to do do it the slower harder way, getting there thou, wiring is always a pain in the a___se, :x , , its all worth it in the end hey,John.

Read my build thread from sept last year when I transplanted full Au2 wiring into my ED... I run full smartshield with AU2 PCM & BCM (other modules I don't need)... I have all the interior light features as well as dual stage unlocking and self re-locking of the doors... Because it is AU PCM on the 6 I gained sequential injection and the run hot strategy in the computer (fingers crossed I never need it)... There was a fair of stuffing around lengthening some things and changing plugs... I detailed most things pretty well in my build thread esp where I ran into problems... Heater controls took a while... Had to re-wire the controller itself to suit the way the AU controls the AC switch (you'll probably be right there)... Headlight switch took some working out... Turns out the resistor for dimming the dash lights isn't in the switch... It's in the loom... The LCD in the cluster wouldn't illuminate, as soon as I plugged the dash clock in it did... Never investigated why... I always run the dash clock... Biggest success was the AU PCM will drive the data requirements of the AU cluster meaning you don't need to run and EF/EL computer simply to get your temp gauge working... The 6cyl runs a better AC system which a temp and pressure sensor and better thermofan control than EL... Not sure if that applies to the 5.0 or not but...

Took me months of setting up to get ready for the 1 week swap out... The only piece of ED wiring left in my car is the boot loom because the AU boot loom was too far out so I just changed the plug on it...

The AU cluster plugs were a direct fit into the NL cluster I'm running just had to re-pin them and I have door ajar which added most of labour intensive side of things to get functioning... You may also run into the passenger door issue I had and the work around is again in my build thread...

Any questions just ask me...

Cheers,
Tim

Been ages since I logged on. Project is still underway but moving slowly since changing job roles and being very short on time. Regarding electrics the general plan now is to run a nl fairlane/el fairmont ecu. I'm getting a chip/tune and cam package from Bruce at VIP so I can't justify taking even more time anf money just for coil packs and sequential injection. XHs aren't exactly high tech anyway haha

Decided to rebuild the bottom end, was gonna leave it alone and just work the heads but while it's on an engine stand I didn't have the heart to leave it.
