Alright, I know it has been said before, but what are the options for dull headlights.
I have polished them clean twice. I replaced my EL headlights and they are crap. The beam just will not light up the road espaecially in the wet, no matter how I adjust them. What has everyone else done? It is driving me nuts!!!!!

Most headlights are bad in the wet as the light is reflected off the road, instead of bouncing back at your eyes. As long as you can see the edges of the road, it doesn't really matter if you cant see the actual road directly in front of you. If there's something on the road to be seen, you will see it.
My only suggestion for these headlights is to use OEM only, and fit them with brand name 'plus' bulbs. What method have you used to polish them previously? Check this link out for a great finishing method... http://www.autogeekonline.net/forum/sho ... -idea.html |

get a set of Philips X-tremeVision 100+, they are the only good globes I have found for the EL lenses

Make sure the reflectors are OK too.....they are just as important as the lenses.
Maybe look into those mock XR6 headlights.....I think by Twin Light.....something like that. How many times have you seen people with green looking headlights?????.....it happens when the headlight reflector is dull and yellow, and they fit those bright blue headlight bulbs in.......yellow and blue make green.

OK, thanks all. I have polished the headlights and have had to redo once. I use permatex polish which is very good.
I put NArva Artic 50 in and it made a difference, BUT, I can't adjust the beam in properly. RH high beam is pointing at the road to get the low beam to work and LH is way off to the left. Should new globes do this? Cheers

just readjust them i had a wobbly headlight assembly in an old swift i once had you could watch the whole beam travel around the road when turning corners was good for seeing parked cars on the side of the road but drove me insane.

Nah, that isn't it. Headlights are rock steady but these new globes are all over the place. I thinking of changing them back!

Part of the problem is the larger globes.
The actual problem with the EF/L stuff was UV and Heat - which affected the plastic and causes it to dull. So you need fully UV Cut globes, and probably best not going too high (100w) otherwise your going to overheat them... same problem. The other part you might not be aware of is that the Higher wattage lamps have a longer fillament, and this affects the aiming of the beams. Its not easy to get the high beams, and low beams lined up to work together. I had twinlights, with the globes that came with them, and was very happy with them. If you want more light get a set of lights for purpose (spots). Nigel |

Hi,
Go the dual lights. My EL has a " twisted " reflector so my high on the left hits the ground. Did this so low is good. For the Dual lights you dont need to change anything else, and should be a quick job rather than an XR front. You can then fit some bigger high beam globes, and there will be quite a difference. I ran 100 watt globes in my RX4, and a couple of driving lights. Light was good, and never got flashed because the lights went where they should. Metal / glass lights will last, plastic wont.
