i have a xd fairmont ghia with a disc brake rear end. is this a 2.92:1 LSD? pretty sure it is...
I want better take off so i was thinking a 3.23 or 3.45 or 3.5... Assuming i was just gonna change the centre, which diffs will fit and out of which cars? thanks chris |

The ratio is stamped on it. Usually they were 2.77, sometimes 2.92. If its 2.92, your in luck, the gears from an EB, ED will fit. I have fitted a set of EB 3.27's to an XD diff LSD B/W before.

rather than changing the diff ratio i would recommend a real good tune up. Those engines have a s**t amount of torque and will pull from almost no revs. The standard carby on these things will not react well to being played with. I would recommend a 650 Holley (depending on want you want) for a fair bit of mumbo and reliability.

i would also recommend a carby upgrade, but if you still wanna stick to diffs, get 3.5 gears if you want quick launches. the rpm is a bit high on the highway but i hardly drove mine above 80km/h so i never really had a problem with it.

if it is a factory 351 it is a 28 spline 4 pinion like the eb series 2 onwards. if it was a 302 it has the 25 spline 2 pinion centre same up to the eb serie 1. just get a wagon or ute diff out of the e series
