Hi All

A few months ago a mate help with putting a new heavy duty clutch in my 91 xf ute as the clutch was slipping badly.

Problem is every couple of weeks we have to retention the clutch cable, this has become a problem as we have run out of adjustment. We have needed to have the cable quite tight to allow us to get any gears and doing so we have pulled the clutch pedal off centre and the pedal has turned to the left by about 20 degrees. I tried backing the cable off by about 3 turns and this resulted in us unable to get any gears at all...

Please help

Could the clutch be too heavy for the cable?

Is it possible to change over to a hydraulic set up?

Any other ideas

sounds like the pedal box has broken, it is very common. or the hole in the firewall is cracked - also common.

also should a heavy duty clutch make the pedal real heavy. a 30 minute drive through town give u a dead leg. Is this just a symptom of what wardy0 said

generally heavy duty clutches have a higher clamping pressure, which means you have to exert more pressure on the pedal to get the clutch to release

as said before it sounds like the pedal box has broken.. get under there and have a look and see if the pin that the clutch pedal pivets on is bent or broken, and replace or repair as necessary.. also check the firewall,, as they crack also.. bit harder to fix however
