i have the opposite opinion .. i had a 86 xf ghia 4 speed etc .. i have since throwm that car into car heaven .. i now am the proud owner of a Xe 6cyl auto and i love it .. no more cursing n stuff just sit back n cruz 8-) (im glad to have gotten rid of the manual .. these cars were made by the gods to go slow)

ive had a auto cortina which i changed to a 5 speed celica. it was pretty good, then fifth gear was good.

I have a xd v8 now and am thinking of going to manual. all and all if you have a good auto i reckon they can be fun to drive but if you want the fifth gear for the highway then go manual.

then you can change your diff ratio and get better take off...

Go for it!
I used to drive an XF auto every day, and now I drive an XE auto a bit, but that is not mine so I can't convert it ( just looking after it) and I can tell you that Dad's 2.1 litre manual Volvo 245 would accellerate better and was HEAPS more fun to drive than a bloody automatic slushbox XF. The motor may have been twice as big, but man they are slugs!!!
Stick a manual in tehm and tehy just wake up like nothing else!
Do it!!!
