Im 16 and have a big passion for older fords(xd,xe,xf) i was just wanting to know, is it worth converting my xe from auto to manual 5 speed,[/img][/b]
I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD I NEED 2 CHANGE THE CROSS MEMBER, IS THAT TRUE?? R THE SINGLE SPINNER DIFFS OUT OF THE AUTOS THE SAME AS IN THE MANUALS OR DO I NEED 2 CHANGE THE DIFF TOO?? I ALSO NEED 2 CHANGE THE COMPUTER, WHERE DO I GET ONE OF THEM FROM??

hi
if your cars in ok condition and you want to keep it its definatly worth it.. if you love driving a manual .once you converted it you will be happy! the manual will feel heaps better to drive.. it will be like driving a different car... |

Particularly in the X Series : The 3 speed auto isnt like the 4 speeder.
Even changing to a 4speed Manual will put a huge smile on your face. The 5 speed is awesome. Cheers Nigel |

Unless you drive through bumper to bumper traffic 3-4 hrs a day, it`s the best $500 you`ll spend performance-wise...

Done this conversion mate......you won't look back
 . The gearbox crossmember is different but if you get the gear off a wrecker just get everything from the donor car.

leave it auto, u get sick of manual in a few years but a BF 6 speed auto in if anything

personally i dont see the point in leaving it auto becasue maunals are so much better to drive and more fun. but thats just me.
if i was you i'd convert it to maunal.

i had a xf and went auto 2 manual. you wont regret it it wakes up the car heaps. ive still got the conversion if u want it only minus peddal box.

I've done this conversion to my ZL Fairlane in the last month or so and I can only say "why didn't I do this earlier".
When you do the change over it's possible to get the pedal boxes in and out without having to remove the entire dash but it's a bit of a push and shove, with a smattering of swearing. You have to remove the brake and clutch pedals but leave the pin in place which you slide back to put the pedal (brake) back on when you've got the box in place. I've found an increase of around town fuel economy of about 10% and I love the fact that it idles down the freeway at 100k at a mere 1850 rpm compared to the 2300 of the auto (slugbox). And yes the novelty wears off about as quickly as working with a jack hammer for the first time.

its a personal thing - people like autos, others like manuals.
people get tired of manuals, but people still tire of auto too , so you need to go with the one that will make you the happiest - if you want manual, then put a manual in it! personally - its something iv always wanted to do to the 6cycl, i think it would be a great manual to drive.
