I just got given a 84 xe ute! For free!

It even has a canopy on it which is in excellent condition!

It doesnt have any rego, and does have some rust in the following places:

* Between the door and the wheel arch
* The drivers side fender needs replacement cause it has a rust hole in it.
* At the bottom of the rear window, not sure how much it is, will need to remove the window to see

but apart from that, it is straight! The tray has a bit of surface rust, but nothing a quick going over with the wire brush, and a pressure pack respray wont fix!

Also, the drivers door handle is broken, in that it wont open the door, is that common on the xe's? is a new handle expensive? i assume i would be better off going new from ford....

Any idea on how much the rust repairs would cost? I will post up pics shortly as soon as i work out how!

But it runs good, can be a little difficult to start, but runs good when it does, i assume that it could just be a tuning thing...

Anyone recently got a blue slip in nsw?

What kind of things were they most worried about? Would the rear window rust need to be fixed for rego? everything else works, my only concern is the rust...

I could always go the dodgy fix, and just get some bog after grinding the rust out, which given the size of the holes, doesnt sound too bad, but if it isnt going to cost much to fix it properly, then i'll do that!

Or if anyone has a drivers guard or a door handle they want to sell cheap, i'd be interested!

i agree that the rust in the sides is an issue, however what about in the rear window?

as far as i can tell, the only thing that will fail rego is the rust, so all in all, given the purchase price, it's probably worthwhile

anyone know of any ford wreckers, preferably in the sutherland area NSW that has xe/ xd vehicles in the lot?

everything you list is common..... especially the doorhandles

when you pull the guard off, make sure the drain hole in the scuttle panel are clear of all s**t, or you'll have bigger rust problems soon

well i picked up a parts car today, already stripped the entire front off it, and half transferred it to the ute, moved the doors across (it's a wagon), luckily this car has just about every part i need!

Including power steering, so i'll get that transferred across as well

The interior is almost perfect on it as well...

If anyone needs some wagon parts, let me know, and I'll see if it's any good!

why are ppl so scared of failing a blue slip.. the best way to know what u have to fix is to take it to a place, and get a blue slip, and when they right out the rejection for the rust and whatever else u find, then u get it fixed...
