really stiff suspension, would be a good place to start
and yes a locked diff of any kind is illegal for on road use

According to Fast and Furious, the solution is a Mustang with a Nissan donk...
How much for suspension will greatly vary depending on what kinda set up your after. I'm guessing your prolly gunna need replacement lowered rear leafs (400), matching rear shockies (200), nolathane evolution bush kit (500 - prolly needed as a. your current bushes are prolly shagged with age, and b. nolathanes are stiffer than rubber), and front sus I'm not familiar with what the XC's run, but you can prolly find osme coil overs somewere (2grand), sway bars (200 per side - Whiteline do a rear swaybar kit which would be good to give the car extra stiffness) - those prices are just guestimates on my behalf. Custom front strut brace? |

Yeah mate in america they have tried and failed with using old school muscle. They are currently trying to drift an ss camaro, blue one sponsored by falken tyres (or whatever) and yeah it doesnt drift very well, due to the weight of the thing, it can powerslide but not drift.
So i recommened putting the xc on a BIG diet. Oh and everything anyone else has already said.

With that said TTBMX, the Capa Crapadore or Monaro or what ever, the yellow one is bloody awsome to watch, far better than any of the Jap boxes next to it, not as sooth, but none of the other cars produce nearly as much smoke from the rear!!!

twrc7x i'm talking old school like 60's old school cars, they were built tough, made of real cars not plastic/carbon fibre etc.
Mind you theres a guy in the states in the D1 that drifts his street car and has all the dvd screens/subs/music etc going whilst he drifts, is definately a spectacle.

yeah im thinking going some fibre guards ( carbon or glass havnt decided yet, have been using glass an seems pretty easy to use might stick wit it for now) and fibre bonnet (with scoops) and boot lid. Would do more fibre but wats left on the car is structual and cant be removed would a lower diff ration be better for drift or higher? also any tips on auto drifting? would best idea (bsides goin manual) be just go through the gears (is 3 auto, believe c4 but ex owners said was c10 but they also said it was a fairmont when all plates say falcon so unsure wat box is in it, any way of tellin?) also rough gestimation on some stock rims (dont need to be thick, thick tyres cost more ) thanks for all support, is good hearing ppl wanting to show theze jap crap wat real cars are, lol. Thanks again all and will keep u posted on the car. if all goes well might be at winton on the 16th dec if money holds out that far

I've seen a few pics of the SS drifting and it looks pretty good. But has anyone seen the powercruize 6 DVD? Peter Grays 6/71 blown camaro powersliding through a few consecutive corners. Now I'd pay to see that any day.
But as for the XC it runs similar suspension to an XY and if you look at some old bathurst shots those things could drift pretty well, not just powerslide out of a corner but be tipped into the corner pretty sideways. |

if you are going to be putting big power in the car and throwing it sideways all day then i suggest you put a full chassie in it or you will end up twisting it into a $500 dollar piece of s**t and it will make it handle a lot better i got mine built and installed for $1300 in an XY it was well worth it..

and yes a locked diff of any kind is illegal for on road use Actually, if you read the modification guides a permanently locked diff is illegal yes, but a switchable lockable diff is ok, so there's one possible solution, expensive though so possibly not the best. The other legal option is a very tightly shimmed LSD, only real problem being that the damn thing will wear and require adjusting with heavy use. |

maby itd b a good option to buy a kit car or replica coz itd b heaps lighter than an origanal XC, and itll still fit all the good u want, plus u dont hav 2 go striping out body deadener and stuff to try loose the lil bit of weight

Actually, if you do your research, a mechanical locking centre costs about the same as a fresh LSD, it will also last alot longer. My mechanical centre cost just on $660 installed.
