Hi ,
I need to drop the sump on a pre x flow 250 (2v motor) in an XB - problem is, I've got 2 manuals, an ellery's which just says to unbolt and remove, and a Gregory's which says you need to disconnect wiring, rad hoses etc, and jack the motor up 2 inches and rest it on blocks....which one is correct? I don't want all the extra hassle if I can avoid it, but I also don't want to be halfway thru and realise I have to put the sump back on to jack the motor up...

Take the weight off the sump and pull the engine mount through bolts out, lift the engine about 2" and put blocks of wood under the engine mounts to support it...might not have to pull radiator hoses, dunno...

Meh, you should be ok without disconecting the hoses, just watch them as you rasie the engine for clearence issues.
You may want to undo the front sway bar also.
Raising the engine by using a trolley jack under the bell housing works well, but of course be careful when using jacks
