Gday,
I am new to this forum... it looks like a good source of info (and a potential bad influence in future ). I have got a donor EA wagon with a t5 gearbox. I wanted to put the t5 into an XF with a BW35. These are the things I have figured I will need. 1. XF series II clutch cable (probably get brand new from repco...) 2. XF clutch pedal box (have one from wreckers) 3. Longer flywheel bolts (Ive been told I can use the EA flywheel on the XF providing I have these) 4. The hard one... XF series II t5 bellhousing. 5. Manual EECIV computer.... If anyone on this forum has done this conversion before, am I missing anything? Any advice? Also can anyone recommend where I can source a manual computer and bellhousing? Cheers |

I have personally done this conversion many times.although it was a few years ago.
bellhousing is the hardest thing to find s/hand. I would suggest just go to CRS and get a new one. check the EA crossmember, im fairly sure you will need to buy a XF 5 speed crossmember.some of the early EA ones were the same but are rare. you should be able to get one of these from CRS aswell.they have a big dogleg in them for the mount to bolt up. as for the computer just leave the auto one in. it will be OK If your engine is an early one you will need to drill the bolt holes out on the flywheel and replace the bolts. if you have a late xf motor the ea bolts should be OK. the late XF motors ran a EA crank in them. you can tell the difference by the part number on the LH rear of the block. if it starts with 84DA its an early motor if it starts with 86DA its a late one. |

Or are the XF to EAs too different electronically wise to interchange? |

I have done this con on my XF & didn't change the computer... Runs fine. I also used the XF Auto cross member on the T5. If you leave the auto diff in it as I did, your RPMs should be approx 1800rpm @ 100kms. One thing you need to do is get yourself a Spigot or Pilot bearing and knock it into the back of the crankshaft for the input shaft of the T5 to go into.

Spigot bearing is under $10
If someone here can read the bearing code number off the side of the bearing, then go to a bearing shop 'cos you will pay a lot less than if you go to a dealer and buy a spigot bearing. Same thing, different price. When I did the clutch in Dad's Volvo a new bearing was nearly $30 from Volvo but I got a 6202 ball bearing for under $6 from a bearing shop.

Have you thought about putting the whole engine and gearbox combo in? Might be easier.

Is the tail shaft length the same ? you may need to shorten it.

Hey I am doing this conversion atm and I am tearing my hair out tryin to find a 2H bellhousing to suit the T5 to my XF 250 crossflow. Trying to avoid the extra expense of buying a new one. Any ideas would be appreciated. James.
