Has any successfully put an ED dash into a X series?
I started this a few days ago, I knew there was going to be a lot of work but it's quickly getting out of hand. I've FINALLY got the thing to physically fit, but to get everything to work is turning out to be a nighmare. I thought these would have been very simular in regards to wireing, heating and cooling. But it seems everything is slightly different.

Should be a pisser to get to work really, i note the smartlock sticker on your window, so any reason why you can't run ED dash loom + ED engine bay wiring? should make every thing more or less plug and play

I would've thought you've done the hardest part - getting the dash to fit.I thought these would have been very simular in regards to wireing, heating and cooling. But it seems everything is slightly different. An EBII/ED dash into an XG, would have the same issues as an EF/EL dash into an XH. This is mainly the fit to the bottom windscreen, and to the A pillars. The airbox's are the same, so with the incoming dash's ducting, it should join up, provided you can position the dash correctly. A LOT of work I'd think. Then there's the dash sides, which might jam against the existing door trims. Good effort though, as everyone's said - don't give up. {USERNAME} wrote: Should be a pisser to get to work really, i note the smartlock sticker on your window, so any reason why you can't run ED dash loom + ED engine bay wiring? should make every thing more or less plug and play The XG's have just about the same wiring as the EBII/ED, just as XH has the same wiring as EL (but with an EF BEM).
The main difference would be in wire lengths, plug positions, etc due to the differing dashes. Good opportunity to run a few Fairmont goodies like trip computer, Climate control, etc.

The harness that supplies everything to the door and the lhs indicator on he XG is part of the dash loom. But the ED the loom crosses the floor under the seats, then goes back the lhs door. Could use the ED body loom, but unsure how the smartlock will react without having boot, fuel door and rear doors.. Quote: I would've thought you've done the hardest part - getting the dash to fit.

The front air duct fits fine, but the windscreen duct on the ute sticks out o far and has to be modified. The modified ED dash now has no vents to let air out to he windscreen. Have been thinking of using some hose for this but once again, not much room. The doors themselves without trims hit the dash. Not sure what to here. Yeah your right too, the join between the door, dash, windscreen and pillar is very, very untidy. Looks like s#it actually. |

Yeah, I've been temped to fit an EF/EL dash. As you've found, the only way to find out for sure is to get one and actually attempt to fit it.

Actually, you'll find all the features of the passenger vehicles still present in the XG BEM, they're just not wired up. So you could use them for custom purposes, e.g. hardtray top release, etc. Remote Central locking would be easy to fit also. So if you had to go back to the XG dash, all is not lost.

These photos were taken a while ago.
The dash is fitted and working. For the Hazzard switch i used a switch fitted into on of the blanks near the Trip comp. Door trims to be finished. Bought an XH XR6 so the XG has just been collecting more dust.
