Is it possible to replace my old Xf seats with the much more comfortable EF seats? Or some EA-ED units? Anyone know which models share floor pans?

XF is different to EA- ED which is also different to EF/EL i believe. Sorry, no luck there

i cant se y u cant modify yr xf rails to fit the other seats, my mate just put a set in his mitso ( 3.8 v6 van ) he just tweeked the rails..
how good are u at welding??? its simple fabrication

surely you can modify the rails and mountings to bolt them up with a bit of help from drill/angle grinder and welder

An engineer's certificate would be needed as well because you are adding on non-factory equipment /modifications to the car - have to meet safety standards, regulations etc.

modifing the seats needs a eng certf? dam never heard that, how do all the ricers get away with custom racing seats? not being a smart a** or anything just wondering

Anything that doesnt use the original seat rails and mounting points needs an engineers cert i believe. Same as for things like seat belts

No need for a cert. here in NZ. Not only do we have a fairly full sporting trophy cabinet, we have some lax rules as far as modifications go!! ( I think)
No worries though. I'll have a fiddle when I have some time. I've also got a 4.1 crate motor waiting to go into the ute when the big end goes (soon), when was the last time you saw a brand new, never been started, 4.1 engine in a box from Ford?

i have put an ea bench seat in my xf ute. others should fit to i'd imagine.

You can mod a EA seat to fit, you just unbolt the rails off yor XF seats and bolt them on your EA seats, EL and EF seats are no good cause they are rivited to the rails, but EA ones are good, NFI about EB and ED, i'd imagine they'd be the same as EA, but I'm not personally sure. But i've put a EA seat in an XF. And do it right, and no one will know its not a XF seat, so who would bother getting someone to check it.

I've been told, just lately, that the seats in the ute ARE an EA set. Apparently it's an Oz built model, built in '89, that has EA center console & door trims.

i think if you look into it here in victoria you will find half that statement is true and the other half false
Anything that doesnt use the original seat rails and mounting points, seats in reguards to the ADR or for the ones that doesnt know Australian Design Regulations/Rules you will find it says jack about seats as they dont have anything to do with safety.
in an accident its not the seat that saves your life, if it did then you need to think about it more. What happens in accident is forward motion which is greatest force/motion at that time.
its the seat belt that is not allowed to be moved and this is only for 2 points not the 3rd but they are trying to make it for 3 points and its never happened, the 2 points are the lowest points one the buckle and the other is near the door and must go though a structural part of the car.
so for seats no and seat belts yes, but.......adding additional information the seat must also be able to support a person without collapsing hance 3 or more of the old 40kg bags as min.

Sorry but the about the above but its something you need to look into before changing, big washers or flat bar works

Im sure that EB-ED seats just bolt straight up to the same holes as the XF as its what I had done to my XF ute and but EB Ghia seats in but EF-EL wont bolt straight up

EA EB ED NA NC DA DC and XG seats WILL bolt straight into an XF ute or Van as long as it was built
after 89 as they share the same floor/bolt set up

before 89 share the same floor/seat bolt set up as the XA-XF sedans and wagons

not sure about XH though... anyone know if XH seats bolt into XG and late XF

XH seats are the same as EF/EL. I know, as I have the old seats out of OZBMX's fairmont in my ute.
You are correct, pre-'89 are the old style, bolts-thru-the-floor-style. After '89, XF's used the same floor/seat arrangement as EA/EB/ED. Much easier/neater way to go. Especially if you have ever removed the seats from an old X-series, when the bolts are all bent/rusted/generally f@cked up.
