When I bought my '95 XG ute new,I had it fitted with the optional "Outback Pak",and the "Hydrotrac" diff ratio is 3.45:1,with a 5 speed manual.
I could have ordered a 5.0 l V8,but the thing has enough power for me,and with the 2 tanks filled,I can manage around 30 - 31 MPG,a freeway speeds,not to bad for a 4.0l engine. Wrongway Smith. |

I have a xg and have rebuilt a 5l from a dc ltd then fitted it to the ol ute.
unless you are getting your parts real cheap it isnt worth it(in my opinion anyway)you will need engine mounts with body pads to suit, custom made high pressure hose for power steer, exhaust manifolds from early windsor or extractors, the manifolds depend on what box you use behind the motor i used a btr auto and wired up computer for it. with this box the starter motor is on the passenger side and all cheap extractors for that age vehicle are designed to fit with the starter on the drivers side( i assume a c4 box)xg radiator works and fits with e series v8 hoses but need mods done to fit the header tank.exhaust system and shortened tail shaft.let alone the cost of rebuilding the motor properly.wish i took the turbo option now, i believe similar work involved for only slightly more cost and heaps more power unless you are spending megga bucks for new heads etc on the 8. looking to sell my driveline in the next 6 to 12 months to start fund for a turbo 6 if you love your 8's stick with it but bang for bucks id spend a little more and go turbo |
