G'day all.

First post and know bugger all about the older Fords so take it easy on me. thanks

The names revell and I've just acquired this 1978 XC Falcon\Fairmont. I call it Falcon\Fairmont because I can't figure out which model it is? I am the second owner and, unfortunately, the original owner has passed away so I can't find out what the story on the vehicle is. I'll tell you why I'm at a loss to figure out what it is and the evidence. refer attached pics

ok, firstly....The model number on the ID tag says its a "34 - Fairmont sedan"
- the model tag on the boot says "falcon 500"
- the front of the car suggests its a XC 1/2 Fairmont although I found an XC grill in the boot with dual round headlights with the ford badge in the centre.

I'd really appreciate some help from the blokes in here who know a bit about all this. I'd be the first to admit I'm stumped because I dont really know much about these cars. In addition to the above info, I know its a 4.1 straight 6 in colour "cool mint" (2-pack paint??) with trim colour "chamois". It also has the T-bar cruisomatic auto.

thanks again.

The model numbers are:

18633 '500' sedan
18637 Fairmont sedan
18638 GXL sedan

Yeah, looks like a 'Continental' roof package to me too, becuase it comes forward again on the doors. They used to have a badge saying that on the C pillar, I thought.

Hope this helps.

Fairmonts had the square headlights, and i reckon that's a replacement bootlid. i haven't seen one of those wings before either :?

thanks guys,

spot on with the continental roof. I've heard that mentioned before and I wondered if it was an after market addition. I've checked both sides and it doesn't look like there has ever been a badge on the c pillar.

I think you might be right on with that boot lid too there mr sperm. there is quite a noticeable colour difference (as you can see in the pics) between the boot and the rear guard on both sides.

I'll check the model numbers tonight and get a final answer.

Ok, now I want to restore her or modify her. Is this a rare car at all, or is it ok to just go ahead, paint her british racing green, rip off the vinyl roof, engine modded and a general clean up? your opinions would help greatly. thanks again

That boot lid wing...is it alloy or f/glass or plastic.
It looks like one of the ones for an XW/XY falc.
If its alloy, might be worth a few bucks.

Oh, well. They do look out of place on those falcs, XA, XB, XC.
The 3 piece one is better suited. Like the Cobra ones.
