I have been offered a low km mint condition xe fairmont ghia ESP.
WHat do i need to do to confirm it is a real ESP and not a faker.
It has the scheel interior, gold rims and the right paint work.
Built Jul 82 with 5.8 and FMX.
I have some numbers if needed.

Help appreciated.

Sounds like an ESP to me! Nice find!
Call "13 FORD" and give them the SIDO No. and they can give you a list of the options it was ordered with. Look for the option '54' which is the ES Pack.
Goodluck!

Hmmm, dunno. The code doesn't appear to have any visable link with any of the actual option codes...
My XE is an ESP, and it's sido is 612676, it has options 54, 41, 34 and 03. No link there i can see.
You can email Ford too, thats how i did it... just go to www.ford.com.au then click on some link about vehicle inquiries i think, then select falcon. Make sure they know its an older car, year, model etc, so they dont bung up and tell u bout a BA, LOL.

Just called ford and they have told me the following which is a bit worrying:

It is a police pack - which i think did have some esp options
It was orignally white with blue interior - police
It was based on the GL model.
Factory 5.8 with FMX
Power windows
power steering
air cond
sports dash

I am concerned that it might not be the real thing anymore. I have not bought it yet so i will need to do some checking.

The car is not a real ESP. All 5.8 ESP came with a 4 speak manaul no autos were made.

I now can negotiate the price - he wants $6k for it when it was an ESP. Now that he knows it is a copy it must be worth less. It is very neat and jsut needs a good clean.

That's right, the police used a Falcon GL with the 5.8 litre V8. The 5.8 litre V8 and the auto were available for the XE in conjunction with the police pack, otherwise they are manual 5.8's.
Still sounds like a real nice car though, even though it may not be genuine option 54.

I am going to buy it.
I just spoke to the owner who told me all the bits off the owners crashed ESP went onto an ex pursuit falcon other than the engine and gfearbox as they were already a 351 and fmx.

Very tidy car with all the esp bits - no one would pick it without lookind at the id tags.

Still a nice car.

look at the prices of hot rods, well over priced for what they are.

Sounds great to me, well done in a good find, a real ESP would be nicer, but who could say no to a deal like that.
