Howdy,
98 XH falcon ute. Just had the ute at the mechanics after it has been running rough on and off and some backfiring. They said 100% it is the injectors so had those replaced yesterday. Picked it up and whilst driving around on take off from stop it just died in the ####. A few times after that it hesitated on take off. Took it back this morning and they just called to say needs new ignition coil, plugs and leeds. Now it never ever just totally cut out before having the injectors replaced!!!!! Seems like I'm starting to throw money at it until they fix the issues by just replacing s**t! Not Happy as the ute is not worth spending $$$ on it. There are a few other issues with the car. Central locking has ben disabled. Interior light globe has been removed (can't remember why I took it out years ago) Thing is I seen a post on here relating to EL that wouldn't start and the guy asked if the interior light works! Could this be related. Appreciate and comments. Cheers |

I think it's time for a new mechanic,
How did they know the injectors were cactus? Did they check fuel pressure? Replace the fuel filter first?? Sounds like it's running out of fuel, could even be the fuel pump, pressure test will show all this, How does he know is needs a coil? Did he check for spark? Can he prove to you it has NO spark? Those above are the questions I would be asking your mechanic! this is also why I do my own work, seems this is how most mechanic places are these days,

Injectors often sound the same as head gasket...

Sounds like they do "Swapnostics" instead of Diagnostics, eh?
The only time I've seen injectors stuffed was from some really dodgey fuel that ate the insides of the fuel rail and the fuel filter, which inturn filled the injectors with crap. First place one usually looks, is at the plugs, leads, dizzy cap & rotor, ignition coil, and maybe even the whole dizzy, and the aux drive gear too......then look at fuel flow & pressure....reg, filter, pump, MAP sensor hose, Earths....stuff like that.

Ute is running sweet after the injectors were replaced.
Someone else suggested that the one time it died could have been some air in the fuel rail. Hasn't died since and the few times it has a bit of a hesitation could be gin coil, leads & plugs so will look at those when I have time. So yes it was the injectors that needed replacing. |
