yup I run her on premium at the moment normal ulp makes her ping like hell.

That 250 I posted, runs 10:1 comp ratio, runs on PULP, and doesn't ping.
When you put in a cam with decent aspects, it knocks done the compression.

Do the whole engine, and do it ONCE!!!! I can give you an idea on what works, but that depends on how much you wanna spend. Go & reliability isn't cheap. You could be looking at $5000 to $8000 depending on how much you can do yourself. The more you can do yourself, the better.
Here is an engine, its not finnished, spent about $5000 on it so far, and its not worked. it'll be around the original 48HP.
The old guy that owns it lives about 800 to 900k's away.
Trying to get bits for it has been a nightmare.

Nice work Cjh, gotta love the old astron 2.6 engines hehe.. did the head go in the magna, or the timing chain let go or rings/valve stem seals?

The Holley on that XF is a 600 vac sec, list number 1850.
That carby on the XA could be a list # 4778..???

Yeah, the head had gone on it, so got another 2nd hand one and reringed, rebearinged, rebuilt head, new guides and chain set, cleaned everything, and painted it. This is the wheels on it, 17 X 8's.

I worked in a wrecking yard too, back in 87. Everybody was after Torana bits then. LH & LX Hatchback stuff.

My sister had one of those, a GSR Turbo all wheel drive sedan.
I did a bit of work on that one, and I had a bit of fun with it. Take it up to 4000rpm, and let the clutch out quick, and it got sideways, with torque steer, and nearly all of the wheels would spin. They were only a 1.8 lt.
