The cluster gets a tacho signal from the ECU, so there will be no problem from 6 to an eight.
If you read the tech doc's there is step buy step guide of how to add it. I made a conversion plug that adapts the cars loom to the cluster. and no wires need to be cut. I do have it on the forums somewhere. you'll also need to make an abundance of dummy wires to turn off the door indicators and fuel flap. also there is a 'light out' function that may need patching too. Its a fair amount of work for a cosmetic change. You'll also encounter another problem with the LCD dimming. as the Fairlane cluster requires the BEM to control the LCD display. You might have to add a resister externally to illuminate this. (its been a while but im sure i figured it out a while ago..

Get yourself a gregory's manual at least for basic wiring, read the tech docos - plenty info, also the one's I've written in the X series and E series section.
If you're going to all that trouble, add the variable dimming, electric aerial, have a bash at trip computer(see xf84's XH thread), climate control also. Same with the cluster - add all the features - in this case, add a switch for the tailgate to be boot lid, resistor the back door lines, add bulb out. I did build a remote release fuel lid, which works with the cluster also. Couple pics on this page: the-garage-f53/xhii-xr8-ute-build-ftr-008-the-full-length-story-t97065-30.html Search my threads - plenty XH info. Most stuff is there - if you look for it hard enough. . . . .

My understanding is that he does nod need to figure out any wiring. He wants to mount the dash from the fairlane in the ute. Then he plans to use all of the wiring from the fairlane. so there will be no custom looms just a straight swap. All he wants to know is how does he get the NF dash mounted in the XH

This is what you are looking for.
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=68838 And this one too. the-garage-f53/noah-s-ford-ark-holy-build-is-over-t75186.html Ash's ute was a XF, but the as far as I know the firewall is the same for XF and XH. Enjoy |

how much of the dash did you have to cut out on yours Ash?

I believe that the XH had the EF/EL type dash. If this is correct, then the NF dash will screw straight in with no modification other than the wiring loom addition.

Ash wrote: The dash itself or the cluster? I used the whole EL dash but I used the XF heater box which I modified to change the position of the heater core (Only a Cleveland thing). I didn't have to cut anything except I had to make brackets and cut down the windscreen vent plastic. If utilising the climate control - the blend door motor won't clear the lower windscreen - although some one else who's added the EF/EL dash said there was no problem - keep in mind though.Nigel has a thread with pics on how he modded the windscreen/feet actuator on the airbox(XH's can only select one or the other). There is a thread on fitting an EB dash to an XG ute - search Danjb's threads. Pepeguts has a thread with pics on welding E series inner door skins to XF/XG/XH doors.
