Hey, I've been doing very limited work on my falcons since I was a kid - oil changes, brake pads, spark plugs - all the lame easy stuff.
I recently did an oil change on my XH like every other time, and for some reason when she's warming up, she blows a lot of white smoke. When the engine is warm it all has seemed to dissipate, but it shouldn't be there. Takes about 5-10 minutes depending on the weather to go away, and I think it is still there more than it used to be when the car is warm. I currently have a canopy on the ute and it's hard to see the level of exhaust. I thought perhaps some oil had leaked out and was being slowly burnt off, but a few weeks later and it's still there. Could it be some water escaping? I didn't touch the radiatior system this time when doing the change... Tell me it isn't a head gasket! Thanks guys - I did do a search for this, but all other 'white smoke' issues were fairly specific in their nature (turbos etc). Look forward to your help. J |

being the coldest time of the year, it may just be condensation/steam from cold start in cold weather?

i'd say condensation due to cold weather or coolant being drawn in, headgasket or lpg if fitted
i have had lpg converters leak internally and give symptoms of blown headgasket btw oil smoke has a blue\grey colour to it when burnt off in the exhaust if you are concerned get a pressure check done on the cooling system. that will let you know if you have a leak. but short of using a compression ester on the motor its a unknown really. also common place is for leaks down the block around cyl 5-6 under the exhaust manifold Last edited by 89S-PACK on Wed Jul 24, 2013 12:46 pm, edited 1 time in total. |

Thanks guys - it is quite odd how it just came about after the oil change though... anyway, I'll keep an eye on it and get a pressure test when the radiator is serviced soon.
No LPG, just straight up unleaded, may be using a bit more fuel, haven't paid too much attention to that aspect as yet. Anyway, we'll see... |

Anyway, we'll see... could be coincidental. as most times when a service is done i check to see if there is anything else.. ahh.. better to ask than not, as its amasing how many people overlook the converter. as i thought h\g till i found the mixer full of coolant lol ahh.. well using more fuel might be down to the cold weather too as the car will take longer to get out of the cold start tune. |
