howdy again


how much would it cost to recondition my EFI250 crossflow?
i want to make it more powerful aswell, so what should i do internally to make the the motor go hard? and is it worth it? :?

to get someone to do the reco i dont know,,

i rebuilt one for my car,, a carby engine,, and all i can say is its definately worth it go for a 1800-4800rpm cam raise the compression a bit and itll run like a completely different car..

you cant put too big of a cam in an injected motor (with stock ecu) as far as im aware as the ecu will have a fit... i sourced alot of parts off ebay (new acl pistons & rings $100 :)) and just remember if your looking for valve gear lots of clevo stuff is identical

use 3.3L rods and flat top pistons,with a what they labell a C2 alloy head-which you should have being a EFI motor.Look for a C2 marking on the head.The 3.3 rods have a longer stroke therefore sucking in more air/fuel.
Also aim for a comp ratio around 11 to 1

isnt c2 a later carby head? thats whats on mine, its a 8/87 unleaded carb motor..

i thought c meant carby.. could be mistaken

my oct 87 ZL Fairlane, (EFI250) has E2 stamped nice and largely on the inlet side of the head... if that helps out at all...

about 3, 4 grand? and can you get aftermarket computers for them? and how much? because if i was to get a aftermarket computer i could go bigger on the cam right?

yea, you can get aftermarket computers, the big name ones will cost a bit (probably $1500+), and you have the option of megasquirt, but i'm not the best person to ask on the subject of aftermarket ECU's

yes, an aftermarket ECU will let you run a bigger cam

11:1 is way too high for average pump fuel, you'd be looking for Optimax/Synergy/Vortex+octane booster or even avgas to run that.....

the 3.3 rods wont change your stroke or make the engine suck in more air or fuel

it hought the 3.3 rods where ment to be stronger than the 4.1 rods? :S

Nah they are still as thin as toothpicks. A 3.3 rod is more desirable because the piston will dwell at TDC and BDC longer which gives a bit more power. Think of it as almost free horespower.

The stamp on the side of the head only represents the casting. The most noticable difference between them is the valve chamber e.g(oval, kidney, heart shaped, etc).

One of the thing to remember is that for anti-pollution ford retarded the crank timing by 4deg. What I did on my XF EFI is advanced the cam by ONE TOOTH (ON THE CAM GEAR, NOT THE CRANK GEAR) which is 11deg (rounded off) then deduct the 4deg ford retarded the crank and you end up with 7deg advance on your cam, BIG DIFFERENCE IN POWER. the only downside is you have loads of torque down low, but, it runs out after about 4000rpm depending on the cam.

do you need a new cam to do this or can you do this on a std cam? i have a 1984 ZK fairlane with the 6cyl EFI engine.

you can use the standard one if you want (provided its in good shape, but for $200 odd for a new higher performance one why would you?
a bigger cam in a crossflow makes a heap of difference :)
definately worth the monies

If your refering to advancing the cam like I have described, then the answer is yes.
I don't know how you would go if you had a lumpy cam, it may be to aggresive adjusting it like that.
