Does someone know the trick to removing the fan from the water pump. I know its left hand thread but i cant loosen the nut without the pulley moving. Ive tried tried clamping onto the pulley but it still wont budge.

Get a large flat blade screw driver lock it between on the pulley housing bolt heads, you'll need to find a spot that it will hold fairly well.
Then get open ender - (preferably with ring on other end) - mine is about 20" long, make sure that the spanner is upright. Then use a 5lb hammer preferably short handle to shock the thread lose once it has done this you can easily wind it off by hand. Hope that helps. Ps. remember to put a touch of loctite on when putting back on .... or better still replace it with thermal fans from EL if it's an X series.

there is a special tool in the ford manual that you make that goes over the bolts and you hold to lock the pump and dont loctite it its left hand thread for a reason - that way it will do its self up! not loosen off! |

This is probably a bit late now, but for anyone else who is having trouble...
If you aren't too worried about scratching the pulley, a locking chain clamp works nicely. |
