I've got a v8 xe ute, and the steering box itself feels a little doughy.
there is no play in the box, and it's got new bushes all round.
It just feels like i have to turn the wheel more to get it to turn, nothing major, just wondering if you can change it, as it feels a bit doughy as a result of it.
thanks.

nar nar, just got one done the other day.
it just feels a bit spongey cause of the ratio of steering.
i was just wondering if it's possible to change the ratio.
the car is tight into corners, with minimal roll, but the initial feel is not very thrilling.
tyres are 17in low profile.

GT's had 16:1 manual steering (standard is 20:1), if they had pwr steer it was like the rest, variable ratio with the max being 17:1 from memory.

Without looking into it, it seems for some reason yours isn't variable anymore, I would need to check a manual to work out what could be changing this, someone hasn't over adjusted the adjuster inside the drivers side wheel arch have they?

is the pitman arm ok? also is the input shaft free of play, the box will have to be removed to adjust it as the adjustment mech sits against the shocker well. had the same problem on my ZJ fairlaine. replaced every bush and joint in the front end...
