found a snapped/cut wire on the back of the standard carby. wondering what it does, the wire seems to run back into the car as part of the main wiring loom.
any ideas?

I've got the same thing, and also one with a plug on the end with no partner cables or anything. Couldn't find anything it should be connected to, car still goes... If it ain't broken, don't fix it i guess.

any ideas? Does the carby have a solenoid on it??? A wire does go to that, and it is used to set idle speed.

the crossflow motors with a 1 barrel carb had an anti dieseling solenoid. this solenoid opened the throttle a little when the ignition was on. these used to get lazy, and not up the idle speed. hencelots of them were removed. don't worry too much about it, just set the idle speed and mixture and carry on regardless. if it starts to run on, give it a decoke with a glass of water.

To use the solenoid properly, you turn the key to ON, then depress the accel pedal once, you'll hear a click under the bonnet, then start the car.
The solenoids don't get "lazy", people don't read the "How to operate your car" manual.
