We'll probably need some more information to guess what's causing this.

It's a bit puzzling when you say it runs lean & blows black smoke. Is the exhaust tip black or light grey after a long drive? How long has it been happening for? Had any bad fuel lately?

First thing you could try is partially blocking the carby throats with your hand and giving it a few revs.

Then, remove the plugs on the bottom of the float bowl and blow some compressed air through the primary & secondary jets. Also blow some air down any other visible openings in the throats.

When was the last time you changed the fuel filter? Check the spark on all the plugs & leads. Look for any vacuum hoses cracked, or not connected.

After this you need to start looking at the ignition timing, oxygen sensor, pulling down the carby, etc.

Here's a link to the Weber site. It may not be the exact model, but it looks close.

http://www.webercarburetors.com/ppw/htm ... akdown.htm

Just watch out for springs & ball bearings disappearing when you dismantle it.

Hope this helps.

A Weber 32/36 DGV type carby is nothing like the one fitted to the XE/XF Falcons.

I stand corrected.

The Weber you've got is probably a 34 ADM. You may have to try a local carburetor repair place if no-one can help you here. I tried searching on the net but came up with nothing. Have you asked the local Ford dealership?
