The benefit would be no more cracked firewalls, or broken clutch cables, plus a lighter action at the pedal.

Yep, & they are self adjusting. The reason Ford went cable clutch? Cheaper to produce, & more chance of selling spare parts. (firewall failure, broken cables, siezed throwout fork, snapped fulcrums) etc

you can buy the master and slave cylinders new by PBR. then you simply get a custom line made, cost me about $50 for my last one. It's the bellhousing that is the tricky part to source.

are you saying that the bellhousing off the xd v8 will fit my ed i6?

im not shure about that i think i will need to modify the ed bellhousing i work in a machine shop so it is doable?

would anyone have an xd gregories manual if so be kind enough to scan a few pics of the master and slave cylinders mounted to the firewall and bell housing

thank you

I used an XC hydraulic set up in my Valiant when I converted that to manual.

Aren't BA onwards hydraulic? Pretty sure people have retro fitted those into earlier models when doing a T56 conversion.

XD and XE V8's had hydraulic clutches, the 6's had cables.

Hydraulic operated clutches were fitted from the XK Falcon,up to the early
XD's.The early model Falcons,XK,L,M,P,R,T,W & XY all had an adjustable slave cylinder pushrod. The XA's & up were self adjusting.

The standard XK - XP 144-170ci clutch are mechanical operation(rods & linkages). When you fit a later 200-250 or V8 you use the hydraulic clutch set up from an XR - XY.

i've seen an eb falcon with a tremec and a hydraulic clutch setup. it just had a cup machined and put into the fork. the slave was mounted on a plate held by the passenger's side gearbox mounting bolts. don't know what was done upstairs though.

Just try finding a cable bellhousing for a 3 speed...nearly all the 3 speeds were hydraulic.

One thing you could investigate for the slave cylinder is using a modern FWD concentric release bearing.
These have an annular slave cylinder with the release bearing mounted directly to the end of it, and fit around the input shaft.
Should be easy to adapt...
I know Saabs have them, and a lot of other stuff too.
Just find one with a similar piston area to a Falcon one and it should work fine...
