hi guys, recently came across a 94 model windsor/AOD combo with less than 100k's. just looking for some info on installing it into my xc gxl (302c) e.g cost, problems, fitting extractors and the transmission, whether it is a wise move etc
and yes i do realise that to some this may be a cardinal sin, i just feel like doing something different and the engine was an absolute steal for the price. |

You will need computers for engine and trans as far as I know. Electronic speedo also controls auto??? Does anyone know of after market looms that would connect these? I am doing same conversion on xy, have fitted standard loom and have it running but lots of excess wires.

No, you have to comply with what the car was built with, nothing more. Its a factory engine, of same displacement as available, just an engine number change is all thats needed. |

For the speedo you can get adaptors that go inline with the original speedo cable that give an electronic signal to the electronics.
As for Rego, in NSW the rta are happy if you have all emissions related gear fitted. No engineers report is required. As far as they are concerned you are just putting a later model engine in. No capacity increase, No HP increase, No mounting or structural changes. |

So if you put a '94 model engine into a '77 model car, all the stuff for the '94 engine must be fitted. Now, if you fit an earlier engine into a later car, that engine must run on LPG only. So if you put a 351 Clevo into an EF sedan, it must run on LPG only.

in NSW, if you go to a blue slip station for a change of details, and the engine in the car isn't a factory option, you will gave to get an engineer's report. bolt in or no. not sure about vic though. maybe contact vicroads ?

briney, do yourself a favor and ring the RTA technical help line before you make any more rash statements. I have put EFI windsor's into several mid 70's falcons and not one required an engineers report. You need to have all the late model cars emissions gear fitted though. |

i have a blue slip station. when i rang the tech enquiries line, they said to me, " if it isn't on the spec sheet as a factory fitment, it has to have an engineer's report. " this was for a turbo surf motor into diesel hilux. which was a bolt in affair. no great power increase either. maybe you have just gotten lucky.

Hi guys, wading in to this one - in South Aust, and I'll stick my neck out here, rest of country too because it is based on ADR's, you must go with the ADR's applicable to the motor if motor is newer than the body. My car's a 73 coupe - if I stick in a BA motor for argument's sake, I can't very well stick a Holley carb or something on it, can I, because I'm screwing with pollution gear. Whereas with std motor I can do whatever I want cos its pre ADR 26. (I have a letter from cheif inspector in SA that verifies this).
I know alot of people think you can, and you may be able to physically change stuff but doesn't mean its legal - you're playing a waiting game to the inevitable defect and maybe a fine too. i'd suggest if anyone wants to dispute this talk with your local rego people - as I say, i think you'll find its all down to the relevant ADR's for the motor (assuming the motor is newer - this is also why you can't go the other way, and drop, say, a 73 Cleveland into an AU or whatever....you always go with the newest applicable ADR, motor or car, whichever is newer)
