Gday

Iv got a little bit of rust forming under the paint on my GT bonnet  just on the front lip, the rest of the bonnet is spot on. Ive taken it around a few places and everyone says its going to be too hard to fix.

So Ive picked up a standard XC bonnet that has never been on a car and is still in factory primer, perftect condition :D

Anyways I dont want to lose the "tuffness" of the car by having a standard bonnet so Id like to put a shaker on. Just wondering if anyone has done this before and what issues you ran into.

I have a edelbrock proformer intake manifold, a one inch spacer and a 750 Holley on a 351 clevo. Not too sure if im going to have height issues. Im pretty sure the intake manifold is the same height as the stock one.

Thanks heaps

Its a bit rice but when I had my xd I had 3 bonnets. One was standard, one had a phase 5 scoop on it and the other had what I would term a "faker". It was actually fixed to the bonnet not the engine and was a piece of piss to fit but from a few paces it looked like the real deal. This is one option. Otherwise GTSpares would be the place to call.

i installed a shaker on my 2nd XY falcon and its a piece of cake make shaw your bonnet is in perfect position befor you go measuring up and cutting any thing if you get this bit wrong then its going to be s**t when its finnished and make shaw you get a brace kit to strengthen your bonnet once you have cut out the gutts of it i cut mine out with a grinder to cut threw the main structure of the bonnet and a nibler to cut the skin of the bonnet dont rush it take your time to mark it out properly before you cut check out the photo of the inside of the bonet you can see the strengthining braces to stop the bonnet from floping around they are the unpainted bits bye the way i welded the braces into place and also applied
sikoflex between the theskin and the braces where i would not be welding
well this is an XY bonnet but i hope it helps you out some what...

The GT bonnet with a shaker looks cool, too bad mine's forming cancer... I want the shaker to be attached to the carby. Ive been quoted $380 for a reproduction shaker, is this a decent price. Iv got a few leads for original ones but not too sure how reliable they are.

Might find with most of the originals that not only will they be expensive but the rubber trim around them will probably be rooted anyway.
By the way low ghia that xb looks pretty cool. Nice colour! 8-)

when you are purchasing your shaker make shaw you are aware what you are bying as far as im aware there is 3 different types you can get they all look simler at first glance but they are differant the spacing and number of gaps in the intake mouth is different it does make a big difference to the look that is a fair price but i have seen them cheaper bye maybe 30 bucks

Thanks for the help. Ill take a look at the kits before I order one to make sure it will suit.

Im going to get the shaker put in professionally, and then get the bonnet painted.

Heres a pic of what its going into...minus the flutes and bonnet pins ofcourse.

I saw one where they kept the pins and flutes and it still looked sweet.
She should look great when finished. Some of these young fellas on here probably think that this is a vintage car   Keep us up to date with pics etc.

Yeah Id love to keep the GT bonnet on there but cancer has taken hold and isnt going to stop

I might fit a pin kit....not sure...heard its a pain, same with fitting flutes to a standard bonnet. I think I'll just go with the standard bonnet and the shaker.

Dont ask why I posted the same thing twice....not sure what happened.

I had a shaker on my XB before i got it repainted.
(see gallery pre respray).
I removed it and replaced the bonnet when i got the new paintjob. I had no problems except for the height of the shaker (too low) I fixed it by just fitting a carby spacer.

Ok, so you had a holley and a 1" spacer and the shaker lined up with the bonnet spot on?

You guys are aware that carby spacers can hurt or improve torque curves etc?? 8-)

Yeah a holley with a 1" spacer and it lined up pretty close, maybe a
tiny, tiny bit lower, but pretty damn close I thought. I was happy with it at the time but wanted a change when I got the respray done.
