Hi. I bought an XC Distributor/leads/cap off eBay and figured I would get it to mate to my XF so I can say for sure that I have a points car. (I'm a bit of a survivalist.) I've got the electrics down pat and the distributor in there at the moment is a hall effect type with the Bosch ignition module on the distributor itself (No car body computer to worry about, that has been out of action for a while now anyway).
I've done some measurements with a set of calipers and everything seems okay for the shaft to go into the hole but something is stopping it from going further. Is it the gear? Has anyone else had experience with this? I'll paste some images later on, I'm heading off at the moment. Thank you in advance. |

sometimes it gets stuck on the hex drive for the oil pump, try using a socket on an extension to turn the oil pump drive 1/4 turn or so (dont loose the socket in there though)

You must put the XF gear onto the XC dizzy.....the teeth have different angles....just say that the XF is metric, and the XC is Imperial.
I remember hearing about this many years ago.

There was a shaft size change from XD sometime - perhaps this is the problem.
The Non-EST, but electronic Dizzy (from an XE) is actually the most reliable one there |

But as I mentioned before, I remember something about the angle of the dizzy drive teeth on the cam are different from XC/XD to XF.

I'm fairly sure the shaft size is different

is the dizzy a crossflow or precrossflow? i tried fitting a precrossflow dizzy into a crossflow block today and the shaft for the oil pump drive was too big.

Im fairly sure the Deliniation point was either XE, or XD Alloy head. Actually im fairly sure it was the Alloy Head Block that got the different Dizzy. So the Electronic Distributor wasnt able to just be retrofitted to the Steel Head engines.

The gear on the bottom of shaft is different.

I think the shaft sizes are different...old shafts might be 1/2", and the new stuff might be 12mm or 12.5mm.....something like that.

Since I have been playing with an XD electronic dizzy....it has a 12.5 mm shaft size....as does the Bosch dizzy I was playing with from a Slant 6.

Early dizzy shafts are bigger and won't fit in the later block.
