Hey guys,
A mate just bought an old '79 XD Falcon to do up. (We assume it's a GL) It seems to have a few options that aren't standard. 1. Towbar. 2. Rear heavy duty swaybar. 3. Rear air shocks. 2. Dashboard with tacho, amp meter and other extra gauges instead of just the plain speedo, temp and oil etc. 3. Small spoked and dished 15" alloy wheels with a cone style centre with ford logo in the cap. (possibly fairmont?? ) The question is, were these a part of any option packs? (tow pack, s-pack etc.) Or just random added extras? Also, colour code is 'F'. Anyone know what that colour is for genuine respray purposes? Cheers, Dan.

It could be an S-Pack. The cluster you describe is definately S-Pack as is the rear swaybar. But it is also possible that someone in the last 25 years has added these bits too.....
Pics would make ID easier.....

The paint codes listed for the XD are : T, B, C, D, U, X, G, Z, K, L, 3, 4, 5, Q, 7, 8, 9. There is nothing listed for F. May have to go to a paint joint and see if it was a company colour.
The model codes for an XD sedan are 18933, 18943 (taxi), 18937 (fairmont), 18938 (fairmont ghia). The S packs just had the number as a GL. The Sundowner was the only one that had its own number, 45984. There are 6 different 6cyl engines for the XD. Prior to 1/81.

sounds like all these items you have on your car are added aftermarket things. the towbar may have been standard though.
In regard to the pump up shocks, they were either added after the car was manufactured, or you have a Fairmont with an optional factory towpack.

Cheers guys. It's a NZ new Falcon, not an Aussie import, so defintely not a Fairmont and that could account for the colour code anomally. It's definitely the orginal colour too.
Was just wondering if the wheels are Fairmont, or even off a later model or something. I'll get some photos and post them, that should help. Does sound like someone's added an s-pack dash and some of the other add-on bits later on in it's life though. There's no second tag that mentions s-pack/towing-pack. Oh also, the roof is grey vinyl...does this mean anything special or was that just another standard thing of the day? I'll check the numbers on the tag and match it to the model numbers supplied here. Thanks "cjh". *watch this space* D.

yes, plz send a photo of the car, see if we can help tell you the colour name, and the fairmont wheels.
the swaybar on the rear is not a factory option, and the dash may be from either a ghia or an S-Pak. it sounds like you have a bits n' pieces car, which makes it all the more interesting! dont expect there to be a tag telling you its and S-Pak, what the car really is will be explained on your enigine number plate. Best thing to do is read ur engine plates and all those numbers will explain the colour, trim colour, model of the car, etc. As for the Grey Vinyl Roof, wat colour are your seats? are they a matching tone to the roof? blue seats normally mean grey roof lining, and beige or tan seats means a beige roof lining. if you have a mixture of seat colour/roof colour then you should find out what has been changed.

Cool. The seats are brown(tan) velour and the trim is brown(tan) vinyl and plastic, with a black plastic dash. Carpets are also matching brown(tan) with the seats and trim. Very 70's haha. All seems to be orginal too. D.

Keep in mind, those wheels are optional on any model of XD. So having those wheels doesnt rule out that its an S pack.
